81-er
That's a cracking idea, I'll bank it for use when/if grandchildren come along (which will be a while as my eldest is only 13). How about Colonel Bogey as another one for the playlist? I don't envy you on the painting, I've got one of these in the stash and it's tiny

But wait, no Hurricane? Plus a 'target'. The P-47 got added to the first order when I though kits were limited availability. So seven. It's seven. On 09/05/2021 at 22:23, philp said: Fun. I've yet to decide how to approach the painting but I think it's going to be: - spray the bottom of all (Sky and RLM65) - mask the bottom (yikes!) and spray the main top colours (dark earth and RLM70) - have a stiff drink and think about masking the camo. That's as far as I've got, although I did find some tips on masking. I must admit that building these with the B17s is messing with my 'scale awareness': Still waiting for the Hurricane - two weeks today
CedB
FW stuck together: Look, canopy masks! Magnifiers to max, I'm going in: I'm going for this scheme: … so that blows my 'spray all the undersides' idea. Maybe I'll just brush paint them. They're waiting: Still no Hurricane…

(Feeling of deja vu posting that) Bit of paint last night and this morning: I spend far too long looking at 'proper' schemes for the Zvedas but then I though 'Hold on, this is a mobile for a BABY - not only will he not know BUT it also needs to be colourful' so I'm just going for 65 bottoms (snurf) and green/grey camo. So there. I messaged the Hurricane suppliers and they've refunded so I've ordered another from eModels. What's the betting the other one will turn up…

Tim R-T-C
Glad to see you are having fun in the Bonsai scale, I hope you stick around for some more projects after this one. As you are probably finding, there is a gulf in quality between the Eduard kits - designed with the same love and detail as their much bigger models - and the Zvezda which are quick wargame kits with very average quality. I'm sure a few of us on here would be happy to advise on other good quality kits in the scale. Maybe the Sweet Wildcat and Zeros for an alternate Pacific war mobile? 😉 Edited May 12, 2021 by Tim R-T-C

Dandie Dinmont
Just came across this (sorry, I'll try to pay more attention in future). Highly entertaining as ever Ced, and interesting to see the current state of the 1/144 art (though I fear that my eyesight is no longer up to the task) but I do have one small note of criticism if I may? I don't think you're taking full advantage of the mobile twirler and noise maker. As well as all the stirring tunes, why not include lengthy samples of Merlins and DB601s at full chat, interspersed with cries of "Achtung Spitfire!", "Yellow-nosed bar-stewards 6 o'clock high!", and the ever popular "EEEIIII-OOOOWWWWW! DAKKA-DAKKA-DAKKA!!!!!!!"? I suppose the Eduard FW does deserve a close up: The Hurricane has been despatched so, hopefully, I can start the RAF soon. CedB
While I'm waiting for the B17s to dry I started on the Eduard Spits. Again, two kits on the bench with all the part trees out? This is more like it: I've painted the cockpit (har har) and the exhausts have had their Iron coat: The first step is to close up (???????) and fit the tailplanes but there are seams! WHAT! Oh look, some flash inside the fuselage mouldings around the tailplane slots and the bottom: With that trimmed the fit is quite good. A dob of TET run along the seams and the usual squeeze: …causes (at this scale) massive blobs on the seams! At least they'll sand off easily. Be careful during this stage that you don't bend the antenna. Ask me how I know Feeling confident about the kit I decided to address the bête noire - trying to get Eduard 'wheels up': Not a good start, as usual. That said the detail is impressive eh? You also get four AND five spoke wheels in the kit and various other options. Nice.
Dandie Dinmont
No swastikas? How else will young Otto acquire the love of historical accuracy that is the hallmark of all true modellers (cough cough)? Brandy
Is there no stopping the man? CedB
Same again, with cropped wings: What a nice pair (fnaar): While I was looking for some paint for something else I came across these: Recommended by a friend on BM this stuff does spray and brush nicely (as you'll see) but it pongs a bit. Not that 'Ah, I remember my childhood' whiff of Humbrol enamels. Or the slightly exciting smell of Colourcoats (my favourite). Just, you know, a sort of 'what's that smell?' pong. I'll try to be more articulate later when it gets sloshed around. When the Hurricane's built. That won't take long, once it arrives. Hopefully tomorrow? The daughters are coming down next Wednesday so I have a whole week to finish. Plenty of time then…
giemme
Lifecolor! Nice paints, if a bit tricky to spray. I had great success spraying them through my PROCON BOY airbrush, as you might remember, and thinning them with a mix of IPA and water, or Future and drop of Windex. For brush painting, I almost exclusively use that brand. Ciao
