What a shame the RAF doesn’t have 74 squadron anymore. I wonder if it may be one of those planned to reform with F-35s? Not that you’d know given the lack of any unit markings on those things!

When a new squadron is re activated there is apparently a pecking order based on how long it’s been active in the past. This does not include time as a shadow squadron in an FTS for example.

 

It’s unlikely 74 Sam will see the light of day again unless it’s one of those shadow squadron trade plates.

Because 207 also had RN lineage which suited it's use then by both the RAF and RN.

Given we've seen 19 and 78 reform in the past week or so (under ATC/Battle Space Management groups) 74 might appear again, but as you say I suspect without aircraft.
