1/48 Hurricane IIC, 'Sir Roderic', 94 Sqn, Western Desert 1942.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Here is my recently completed 1/48 Hasegawa Hurricane IIC, marked as HL608 'Sir Roderic' of 94 Squadron, based in the Western Desert in 1942. 'Sir Roderic' was one of three aircraft dedicated to a trio of brothers of the MacRoberts Baronetcy who were all killed in RAF service. Lady MacRoberts, the mother of the three men, donated £25,000 to purchase a Sterling Bomber in 1941 then, later, an additional £25,000 for four Hurricanes, three in memory of her sons, and one being named in her honour. Sir Roderic was killed flying such a machine with 94 Squadron in 1941. His dedicated airframe was initially LH851 before being moved to HL608.

Extras used included Eduard cockpit etch, Eduard mask, AML camouflage mask and Skys decals. Paints are from MRP; weathering is a mixture of Flory wash, Abteiling oils and some Tamiya sets. The build thread is below:

Enough waffle, some pictures. It's not the best Hurricane you'll ever see but I'm happy with it and sits well with my other Hurricane and Spitfires.

Wow! That is one sweet Hurricane- very nice weathering and wear; looks like she's been rode hard and put up wet, as we say here in Texas! Sir Sydney is smiling down on this one! Now go get a Tomahawk or Kittyhawk and do a 112 Sq. kite to go with this one! :like:

Thanks chaps.

@JohnT I only read up on the background briefly when researching this build. I have to say, that guest house looks very nice indeed, exactly the sort of place the missus and I would stay

@72modeler a Hasegawa Kittyhawk is on my list!

there is a nice spa and the chef is super. Nice walks in the grounds. Go give her a treat. She won’t moan about stash acquisitions for weeks. :D

That's most certainly not the worst Hurricane I've ever seen either! Lovely job, really like your paint and weathering.

I knew about the Stirling but hadn't heard of the Hurricanes before. You could also add a XV Squadron Buccaneer and Tornado to the theme!

Really nice model!

Great Hurri always love that desert scheme

Quite a back story too. I think when I travel one day to Scotland I'll look to go to Douneside

Cheers
