Douglas O-38

I came across this bird and had a scout around for some more information but apart from this page, good old Wiki and a few basic pages on the net thrown up by Google I didn't find much at all.

Does anyone know if there is a decent monograph or plans for this type?  I see she was still around at Pearl Harbor and also used in combat by the Chinese Air Force against the Japanese in WW2.  I see there is an interesting story for the sole surviving example at the USAF National Museum.  Not sure how open they are with access but maybe some of our US members might have photos from a visit they might share.

TIA as usual

regards

John

Found these items- don't think you will be able to (1) Find the Cleveland kit or (2) Be able to afford one if you do! It's a handsome-looking observation plane, and I have seen the one at the Air Force  Museum that was recovered from Alaska many years ago, IIRC, either Aiir Power or Air Combat magazine did an article on that O-38, its recovery and its restoration. I would love to see a 1/72 kit of this one, but very doubtful it will ever happen.

Hi,

Ardpol (currently not existing Polish company) produced I think three boxes:

1. early with V engine,

2 early with radial

3. And the late variant  O38E

and lat (O38E). I made two of them:

So besides China also Haiti used them in WW2!

In China a licence variant was produces, which differ a bit from some original US manufactured used there.

Still there is a hope to see back kits by Ardpol on the market, although under other label, I've heard that owner is trying to sell forms to other company.

Regards
