Kitty Hawk's 1:48 Super Etendard (Armada Argentina)

Recommended Posts

Hello guys!

Today I received this awesome kit, Kitty Hawk's DB Super Etendard in 1:48.

As you can see, the box is full of plastic, most of that plastic is dedicated to the weaponry and fuel tanks.

A small photoetch fret is included with the kit.

Because I don't have a very good experience with Chinese decals, I bought two sheets from Calcas del Sur for the Kinetic SuE, but I assume they'll work just fine with this kit.

Anyways, I hope to be able to post regular updates for this kit (I haven't seen many build reviews of KH kits on the internet).

Hi guys, how are you doing?

I decided to start the SuE by gluing the wings first. Fit here was pretty good (the best of the entire model), and the only issue I had was that the instructions didn't show the flap tracks were built from two pieces each.

This kit is also my first experience with photoetch pieces. These (the speedbrakes) were glued with white glue.

Next step will be the assembly of the right wing.

With the wings done, it was time to pass to... the rear fuselage, which has the arrestor hooks, and the engine. Kitty Hawk designed the rear fuselage as a separate part so the modeller can make a diorama with the engine being maintained.

The parts have lots, and I mean LOTS of ejector towers.

Nice! I´m kinda bust with my SAABs these days, rarely have time for others. But I´m also a sucker for maritime strike aircraft so this got me interested, I´ll be sure to follow this! :)

It is a good looking plane.. Kit seems nice too?

The kit looks nice, but the fit is a bit off in some areas (forward fuselage).

There're also lots of ejector towers (inside the engine, rear fuselage and instrument side consoles).

Hello guys, how are you doing?

I added a 30g lead weight to the forward fuselage before gluing it to the rest of the aircraft. This should avoid the SuE from being a tail sitter.

Beginning to look like a SuE now.

The thing that stops me buying more Kitty Hawk kits is the bad fit ( last one was the Jaguar, which was terrible ) but the plus side is they always include lots of stores.

This one wasn't that bad. Fit was very good on the wings, however, the ejector pins on the exhaust were interfering with the installation of the rear fuselage. Once trimmed, the rear fuselage fitted nice.

Some time was spent today painting the model. I used Revell Aqua 78 Panzer Grey for the upper surfaces, and Revell Aqua 05 Matt White for the undersides.

Lovely, those are nice colours. :) Good to hear fit was decent.. I want their Gripens but don´t wanna play Russian Roulette to get a decent mould..

You were gonna hang one extra tank and one of those flying fish? ;)

Yes, I'll be adding a fuel tank and an Exocet missile on the right wing.

1300 litre fuel tank and Exocet missile added.

And here's the SuE with the correct loadout, vs the incorrect one.
