This is stunning! The wheel wells are currently my favourite part, not sure why but they look excellent. As ever very nice weathering.

I hope there isn’t a timescale! I haven’t even buttoned up one of mine yet, or even started the second one, that said it’s because I’m still waiting on decals to sort a scheme or even a mark for the B-24… I’ll email him again, probably won’t love that as he has a lot on!

Rob

Thanks. I did speak to James vie email. It doesn’t sound like there’s a time frame. So you’re safe. 🤗

Have I ever told you it's your fault I got back into modelling (Lancaster build)? Lol

Always good to know I’m encouraging Plastic fetteling. 🤩

Hey y’all hope you’re well is going well. Mine is busy, busy, busy. I have found myself at the bench tonight for a brief hour or so however.

So a mini update. 😍

The UC has had break lines added with lead wire.

51504298866_de1fd40663_b.jpg

And I did some subtle filters. You can see them around the hard corners, and under the intake. See the brown marks? That’s them. 😀

51505009854_40be60a5ca_b.jpg

A few small panels and on the main lines.

51504298891_516466fbbe_b.jpg

Also around the vents and ports.

51504525378_fca0a345e7_b.jpg

The tanks got some love too.

51504298851_bc5fa8f788_b.jpg

Almost forgot about the spinner. For some reason I thought it was just yellow. I was wrong. 😮😬 so out with tamiya for curves and some red paint.

51504525393_18d5c8b11f_b.jpg

And with the masking off we have a stripy shnozzle. 😀

51505223535_5d28d5cd7d_b.jpg

Cheeky test to see how it might look.

51504298786_9f6a1bb75f_b.jpg

Lovely. 🥰

Well a solid little update. Thanks for popping by. Take care and s always.

 Happy modelling. 🐎

Looking good bud. I've just acquired some Tamiya weathering pastels to add that little bit extra to my builds. Apparently they are suspended in an oily base so no need for a 3rd arm to apply, hold model & stick pigment, Any tips for powders? (Even though you're an oils & filters man!)

Thanks. I assume you mean the Tamiya weathering sets. If I’m right I just did my tyres. Probs not the best way but my way. 😀 I did a step by step thing for you.

Back from holiday and just caught up with your build Johnny.

Very impressive indeed! Like others here, I'm especially enjoying your weathering and step-by-step descriptions of your methods.

Keep it going!

Thanks. Hope you had a nice holiday. Glad you’re enjoying the build. 😇

Hey. Hope you had a great week and are looking forward to the weekend. Quick Friday update. @Lewis95 mentioned that he has got some tamiya weathering pastels. I’m hoping it’s these.

51512639734_bb57fd70a3_b.jpg

If not then I guess err.  Maybe this will help with what ever you bought. 😮🤗😜

Any way these are pretty cool for light brushing and dusty stuff. Basically catching high points. Tyres I use them on quite a lot.

Here’s my unadulterated wheel, gloss coat on.

51512639649_ba57e9f75c_b.jpg

I use set E and A the most. Blues yellows and browns. Nice. 🤗

I use a separate brush and pop on a dusting coat of brown.

51512150638_a2376b44aa_b.jpg

After that I go crazy with blue then yellow to pick up the harder edges. I think of this part a bit like stage make up. Go over the top as the top coat always kicks it back.

so here they are with just the powder.

51511925931_c96695de66_b.jpg

Looks just too heavy but with a Matt coat.

51512859265_8b6f17cc1c_b.jpg

Knocked back nicely. Especially against the metallics.

51511124597_cb00785b24_b.jpg

Then you pops yer legs on.

51512150688_c6cb4fab49_b.jpg

And the jobs a good un. 🙌🤩

I also got around to the bit I nearly forgot. Red gun things. 😬

yellow first for pop value.

51512150633_e9de776c5f_b.jpg

And then red.

51512839673_b72d244b65_b.jpg

Just Gotta add some weathering to those and I can flat coat. 😀

Short but sweet. Hopefully I’ll get the canopy sorted over the weekend and deffo on her pins.

Take care y’all.

Nice work on the tires.  I struggle with tires -- if there's tread I use pigment and have to use a metric ton of it because like the pastels, the dull coat really knocks them back.  If there's no tread, then I dry brush them with gray or dark earth.

I just bought the tamiya pastels with the black, brown and white.  Maybe I ought to branch out? 🤔 🤪

Yeah give em a go. I prefer them to dry brushing paint as you can erase if need be. 😇

Thanks Spad. It's the same Weathering Master you've got albeit in a different colour. Good tip there about overdoing it before the varnish coat. Hopefully I'll find them easy enough in my Dak build :)

Good luck sir! I found your build, she looks great.

Woke up silly early this morning and just couldn’t get back to sleep so there was nothing else for it. 🤩

yesterday had also seen some progress.

a Matt coat on the main air frame.

51520327130_401a4a3437_b.jpg

Just dulls her back enough.  🙃

The little tank widgets got added.

51520126329_306d99b664_b.jpg

The pins got a bit of a dry fit.
Taking the shot I was hoping to entice @CedB out with a picture of a dead one. 😮😆

51519418376_0ef6787d2f_b.jpg

Also got the spinner weathered.

51520326955_04d6fe391c_b.jpg

Not much left to stick on. Thoughts move to “what’s next?”

51519638763_2508389725_b.jpg

Coming full circle I need to bite the bullet and start on these. I’ll wait till I open up the office.

51519638643_5f97a92e3c_b.jpg

All that lovely tail wheel detail.

51518606392_95453cae50_b.jpg

Gone but not forgotten. 🥸

51519638168_f69ce36d1d_b.jpg

I have been gifted a new iPhone from my daughter who has had a new one for her birthday. I thought I’d try out the new functions for the final pic of Saturday while she dried.

51519417406_84a982de65_b.jpg

Lovely blurry trees. 🌳

Spent the afternoon in Worcester with friends that have just moved into the old porcelain factory. Vegan market and a few cheeky pints saw out the day. 🫒🌮🍻

So here’s where the early morning starts. Why I got up I know not but there you are.

Once again a game of peek a boo with the props.

now you see it.

51519417551_d6fd44ca1b_b.jpg

Now you don’t.

51519417571_1d83dc569c_b.jpg

Time for the UC doors to go on. The “old faithful” method seems to be in order.

51520124919_5b5af888dc_b.jpg

Checking the instructions for any last bits I find these. Which are now tidied and primed.

51518605542_eff787ee43_b.jpg

And the lights that are dotted around.

51520325810_34a158c203_b.jpg

Drying complete it was time to see her on her legs. Yay! 🦵🦵

51520124969_b4d894ed92_b.jpg

At this point the control Surfaces got added.

51519637473_083df9b42f_b.jpg

They looked good to my eye. 👀 I could put it of no longer the canopy had to be prised  off. A few suspect cracking noses later and a little bit of cold sweat and the office sees light again.

51518605527_bfa42db871_b.jpg

A few little blemishes and marks but nothing I can’t fix. 👌

51519637443_fccebdaa10_b.jpg

Canopy mask peeling next. Front.

51520325735_aaac4c6aeb_b.jpg

And those tricky sides.

51520126384_f4a63eec41_b.jpg

Phew!!! Looking good. You can see a slight white rim that I always fix with some Tamiya panel line wash. It just wicks into all the corners.

51520327055_ba95292d15_b.jpg

The main canopy also came out to play. Not the best clarity but good enough. 👍

51520462370_8173429633_b.jpg

Dry fit of Mr Stripy.

51520126069_4379b5e245_b.jpg

And the other doors and actuators get fitted next.

51519418291_df737bf4f0_b.jpg 51519638538_69dc57c045_b.jpg

So time for this. I read and the read the instructions. Nothing made sense.

51519638548_030dc54792_b.jpg

Then I read the header on the instructions supplied. 🙀🥴

Ok this ones better. 🤒

51520326440_dcec8b7004_b.jpg

a useful tip for holding while gluing these things.

51520125539_c71fb82c4f_b.jpg

A break to do a spot of cleaning  then more later on. 🧐🤩

This is also going in and out of a box on the edge of the cutting mat.

51520326280_c72397240e_b.jpg

Hmmmm Halloween beckons. 😈

Take care and hope you’re all having a splendid weekend.

Whew!  Quite a bit of a catch-up there, but worth every minute!  It's funny how when you see the transparencies of the canopy it seems even more like an airplane... :D

Maybe I'm wrong but aren't the "little tank widgets" called sway braces?  If not, I'd like to know.  I use the term "doo-dad" for way too many things.

In the home strech!

Ha! That’s so funny. I almost called them “do dads” but thought I use it too much so went with widget. 🤗

I think those HGW belts will look ace.

I found the smaller belts (in particular) very stretchy and prone to curl when I used them on my 1/48 spit - and a tip I was given was not to remove the carrier paper - or p'raps to only remove as much backing paper as you need to thread the belt through a buckle - until as late as possible (I think the instructions say remove the carrier paper at the start and scrunch up the belts) .

Mind you - you don't look to have had any problems at all Johnny - so it was probably my fumble fingeredness that was the issue in the first place :D

By pure chance, I have just come across this masterpiece in the making Johnny. You will already have seen a fair number of likes as I wandered through the thread................

What can I say, other than this is awesomely impressive stuff indeed. A fantastic build in every way and a very fitting tribute. The paint work alone is a masterclass in that art.

Maybe I need to get with the plan and do one of these museum tribute builds, I think I have stuff in the stash that would qualify.

Will be glued to this one going forward now.

Terry

PS I  loved he look of those cheese and sweetcorn scones!
