lovely update Johnny.  I'm jealous of so many things - the chesterfield (gotta love 'em), the man cave (mine is a lot more utilitarian, i.e. dirty), and the camper.  I left my old 1971 VW T2 Devon Conversion back in the UK when I emigrated - any regretted it ever since.

Just echoing others to say lovely update Johnny.

Cornwall?  Remember it fondly; save that I don’t seem to be able to get my car down half of the roads…(same goes for Devon where we went in the summer)….  My bad no doubt :D  Shouldn’t have a North Yorkshire based Chelsea Tractor….

New cave?  Looks great (and not a little stylish).  Love the juxtaposition of the little chesterfield vs box seating.

Kit progress?  Impressive painting (as ever - feel like I need to find new ways of saying that).

Overall?  Bloomin’ impressed you’ve managed to fit any modelling  in at all around all them other activities Johnny :D

Thanks all. ❤️ Instead of replying individually I’ll carry on with the update which gives me more bench time. Needless to say Thankyou all the the kind words. 🙌😍

Masking mojo. 🧐

Flaps got done.

51456558761_a1ffcbe3eb_b.jpg

The wheels got circled.

51455791387_26b8b32e88_b.jpg

And tail.

51456807073_97971bd59f_b.jpg

The silly big prop.

51457298574_f2fffdbddd_b.jpg

UC Doors.

51457298314_8f7c6d8998_b.jpg

By the way as I’ve been moving the main frame around a lot she was getting scuffed on the intake so a bit of tape and all protected. 🙌😇

51457515845_59fccbb9dc_b.jpg

Colour was then sprayed.

Prop looks nice.

51457296019_6b228e0fb8_b.jpg

The tread turned out well.

51457295824_e84e4e5226_b.jpg

Tail wheel.

51456806358_2f2f0e4109_b.jpg

Inner canopy section.

51457514125_5697b3f681_b.jpg

Darker Mattel panel.

51457295944_993e961985_b.jpg

And the main flaps got their metal bit added.

51457513930_2357f932de_b.jpg

Actuators.

51456806153_c09acb37ea_b.jpg

And the main spinner.

51456805983_cd4df73d12_b.jpg

after drying for a few hours all that got a nice top coat.

That had to be left over night to cure.

Next day I got something sexy in the post. 🤣

51456557251_d0384c760c_b.jpg

that tiny blue bottle I got with the Iwata finally ran out so I had to get this. 🥸

Masks off and top coat dry I could carry on with weathering. ⛈

The wheels looked good.

51456559556_e6f471f15c_b.jpg

Prop had turned out well too.

51457517180_de41195ff6_b.jpg

So out with the flory!

51456809628_600c2b635b_b.jpg

eager to move this build along I’d forgotten that I still had some decals to add. 🤦‍♂️ So I had no choice but to make clean bits in the flory, add the decal then I’ll fix up when cured.

here’s one just by the wheel well.

51456558756_7811f67740_b.jpg

Two flap ones. Red stripe and a “no step”

51456808683_46918503f9_b.jpg

Fuel tanks.

51457298679_f387d34ce5_b.jpg

And luckily I hadn’t floried the prop so….

51455793392_63af52ec9f_b.jpg

So there we are. Flory is now drying so I can get in there and knock it right back before going in and adding over the new decals.

51456558046_f95e125f48_b.jpg

I’m not sure how many of these builds have been completed but I’m worried Jim might think I’ve forgotten about him so I’m stepping up a gear so I can get this one out of the door and to it’s rightful owner.

Thanks for popping in. Hopefully I’ll get another update sooner rather than later.

Hope you’re having a splendid weekend.

Take care and as always.

Happy modelling.

Johnny.

It's been some time since I've visited the Work In Progress section of BM but I have to say I'm VERY impressed with what you've done with the Revell 1/32 P-51D. It's interesting that care needs to be taken with assembling the major parts but, in the end, the result certainly looks fantastic to me. I'm looking forward to the end result.

Johnny, amazing—will use your technique for the UC inner door scuff plate—do you remember what darker metal shade you used?  Best, Erwin

Thanks. If I remember it was Steel but I only sprayed a light coat. Looks really dark in the next pics though. It’s not really that dark.

Well - not mine  You may even be setting the pace Johnny :D

You might be right. I did have a quick look at all the others. All fine builds. Fingers crossed I do a good enough job. 🤞🤞🤞

Good evening you lot. Hope you’re all having a good week. Autumn is just around the corner and I’m feeling rather chipper.  A surprise mid week update to spice things up a bit.
Before the pony I made some Vegan Cheese and sweetcorn  Scones to have with our soup. Really quite nice. 🤤

Before oven.

51479927186_babc9b70e0_b.jpg

After oven.

51480154868_acfab32cdf_b.jpg

Scrummy!!

What was that? Ok , ok, I’ll get on with it. Jeez tough room. 😛

The flory got knocked right back.

I had to do this twice. The first time I took too much away so I re floried and did it again. More happy this time. The stars and bars came out well as did the variation in the panels.

51480849680_a99011301f_b.jpg

Just grubby enough I think on the underside.

51480849510_7a7866a2ea_b.jpg

The top side was a little harder to get right but I think I got there in the end.

51480645834_57647b9b3d_b.jpg

Just subtle hints but not too subtle that you miss them. Up close you can see.

The bits of grime around panels and on the nose checker.

51480848805_a2b56be851_b.jpg

Really gives an air of realism.

I love the wings.

51479926346_eb5d60bb64_b.jpg

I want to keep her now. Alas. 😇

All the components so far got the same treatment.
The flaps. Top.

51480848775_bf9fc8fa81_b.jpg

And bottom.

51479926366_b5625b9fe9_b.jpg

UC doors. (I said it looked dark)

51480153963_9baf8bc36c_b.jpg 51479166497_be871a0c06_b.jpg

And the long bit.

51480870830_45813a9de8_b.jpg

The wheels.

51479926326_7cb8467965_b.jpg

Legs.

51480175648_46c50bc1af_b.jpg

A blurry tail UC

51479947861_8f52135d2d_b.jpg

Tanks!

51479947671_fc6169f242_b.jpg

And prop.

51480848815_e90b77f3b8_b.jpg

Happy sitting with her for a day I went in and added a gloss coat so I could add a few filters before the final top coat.
so a few shots after gloss. Looking forward to getting the canopy out.

51479927146_5287d45270_b.jpg

And tother side.

51479145882_a7c61fbeea_b.jpg

Close up you can see the shine.

51479145892_eebbfdc7cc_b.jpg

She’s turning out well I think. Filters next then the last few bits and bobs and a mammoth RFI for about four kits I think.

Thanks for dropping by. I know it’s late but it was nice having a little night cap and a catch up. More soon. ❤️🙌

Take care Y’all.

Johnny. 🐎

Really nice work with the dirty stuff Johnny.

Care to share a bit more detail about how you knock it all back?  I always seem to remove almost all of it leaving it only in panel lines which is not the effect I'm after. Your work always looks way more realistic then any of my attempts

Sorry I split this one off as I figured it would be a large answer.

ok here we go. 🕺

I have been doing this for a while now. Those who have been around my builds since I joined BM a few years ago will remember the awaiting patient  “Brown Trouser” method of weathering.  It was to do with oil paints and lots of rags. And a hell of a lot of panicking. 🤪😜🤣😔 well this is a lot like that but with less panic! 🤩

I paint on the Flory with a wide flat brush. In the direction of grot. That then dries.  I get a soft cloth or a soft sock and gently wipe at the flory (dry) some areas are a bit stubborn or need more subtle knocking back (smaller areas) so I go at it with a cotton bud. If it won’t wipe away I might gently add some water (lick the end) dab onto a cloth (wipe on my jeans) and give it another go. This continues until I’m happy. So basically start with a cloth (gentle) and finish with a bud.

I hope that helps.  Flory is ace! I do wish I was on commission. 😇

This is stunning! The wheel wells are currently my favourite part, not sure why but they look excellent. As ever very nice weathering.

I hope there isn’t a timescale! I haven’t even buttoned up one of mine yet, or even started the second one, that said it’s because I’m still waiting on decals to sort a scheme or even a mark for the B-24… I’ll email him again, probably won’t love that as he has a lot on!
