"It's Life Jim, but not as we know it" It's the 453rd Museum's 1/32 P-51D Mustang by Revell.

Recommended Posts

Welcome to my first ever Mustang build. 🤩

The Revell 1/32 P-51D Mustang.

For the 453rd Bomber Group Museum.

Last year I think it was I was asked if I could help out along with a few other members of our fine parish to build some kits for James Clarey who owns the 453rd Bomber group Museum that @CedB took the Americans ( PC and Cookie ) to when they visited a year or so ago.  I agreed and was sent a list to choose from. Like a kid in a tow shop I dived at a !/32 mustang. I have never built one but did have one in the stash. The one I was sent was the Revell kit that I do already have which might make you think I'm lining up to a double build. Well think again. 🤣 I'm done with that CraZynEss.  There are a few PE bits and bobs that Jim sent me that I will have to choose which ones to use as they were doubled. There were no belts either but I've sorted that as you will see if you stick around.   I'm planning an Out of the box build. But as we all know that is never the case. :frantic:

I have no real knowledge of the Mustang so it'll be fun will to see how I fair with this lovely looking American Beastie.

Lets start with the box.  Jim has info on both flavours in this boxing so currently I'm planning on going with the one pictures on the box.

Inside we have a LOT of plastic.

Very nicely detailed by the looks of it too. :D

The Bench is ready.

A bit closer we can see eight trees of solid plastic.

with one of clear and some big old decals and a peek at the instructions.

I have extra washed in the bag.

and some sanding sticks at the ready.

So what better to do on a Rainy Bank holiday Monday that a bit of modelling. And for once the wife is happy as I won't have to keep it in the house. 😂 Please Tag along if you will for hopefully a fun filled foray into American territory on a big old Pony. 🐎

Good to see you taking on another build Johnny.

Looks as if I might be first at the bar? :like:

Doing one of these as we speak, I really like it and will be building 'Frenesi' using the EagleCals decals.

Which scheme do you have in mind?

Ooh lovely. How is it? Are you doing a WIP. I’m going for the one on the box. Jim has dictated which we have to do.

1/32 wizardry courtesy of @The Spadgent; I’m already looking forward to the painting and it’s still on the sprues.  I’ll tag along if I may Johnny.

Thank you.  I don’t know about wizardry but I’ll try and keep up. I’m with some top brass in the 453rd gang. Just hope I don’t fluff it. 🤪

A start has been made and glue has been spilled. 😇

First up the goodies that Jim supplied are a bit 🤔 Not sure about this but...

It’s for a 1/32 Revel mustang but not this kit or Flavour of pony it’s for a P-51B. The other set.

Is for the Cockpit again but actually for this kit. I think I’ll use this one although looking at the IP from the kit it looks better than the PE.

🤔 I’ll have a think. The only thing missing was seat belts. I get two IP’s but no straps. I thought about making my own but s as I had this kit I found a set from the BIG H that had two sets in one package.

I’ll use one set in Jims build an keep the rest for my one. 😇

The first steps will have you construct The office, no surprise there.

After clean up I did a dry fit. Some holes needed drilling but everything seems to go together well.

There was a choice of seat and not knowing which one to choose I went with the one that looked more busy.

51156609900_060760523b_b.jpg

I glued it. 😬 I kind of dry fitted it while I was glueing it but you know it’s stuck now and up at the bench. Fingers crossed it fits on the frame. 😮

Not much I know but I have also been working on my RC thread.

More soon. Thanks for tagging along. Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend.

Anyone keeping count? More to come?

I think there are 4 officially museum sponsored builds and my unofficial, donated one.

I am watching.

Already by the bar, on the creaky stool and supping a pint of Wood's Shropshire Lass.

Lovely, just like the fabulous Mustang and I know how good it is going to be.

Fine choice Johnny.
