DOBI-II , 1/72 , Scratch built

The DOBI-II was the second airplane designed by Lithuanian aviator Jurgis Dobkevičius in 1923. After two landing accidents the plans for mass production of airplane were abandoned.

Some interesting facts:

The ailerons were very long and due to a special mechanism they could be folded down like flaps

The hanging control column was used in DOBI-II

In 1923 DOBI-II was the one of fastest airplane among the 2 seat aircrafts with 200 hp engines.

Beautiful model, as a scratch building newbie I am hugely impressed!

 

It's hard to tell from the photos but did you paint onto the balsa after filling the grain? If so I would love to know how you prepared the surface for paint. I am struggling with doing this.

Balsa and modeling clay were used only for making the preliminary model. Later, all parts were cast from resin in silicone molds.

Wow, very nice work. I've never heard of this aircraft, and it looks great. I'm really impressed by your scratch building and hope you will share more Lithuanian designs with us 👍
