Hi all

Another one over the line, this time it's the lovely little Ford Flivver by Williams Brothers.   They really did some nice kits and I have 4 more racing aircraft and a sport plane in the stash.

The Kit is very simple and has only one sprue.  The decals were cracked but went on well and although the wing underside decals were neededputting together the rest went on fine and settled beautifully with only a quick vat of Microsol.  You do need to scratch a couple of items but this is only aileron actuators and the windscreen.  I replaced the tailwheel braces with Rod, added seatbelts, added spark plugs and leads from Little Cars ivory coloured wire.  The Engine is very simple to put together and only has 3 cylinders.   I replaced the pushrod with 0.33mm brass rod.

The tailplane rigging and Rudder wires were done with invisible thread.

The model was painted using Humbrol enamels by hairy stick.

A very enjoyable little model of an unusual aircraft.

The build thread is here

Thanks to those that have supported and encouraged or put up with my deviations from the main thread as it was part of my Ventura build thread  and thanks for looking .

Beautifully executed!  I'd forgotten that this kit exists!

Thanks TJK, very kind too, I  had never heard of it until last year when I bought this and three other civil aircraft kits on the bay and loved this kit, it was an absolute joy to build.

Thanks guys

So bloody cute, and unusual to boot!   That's just great modeling Chris!  :clap2:

Very kind thanks Gary, it certainly is an unusual machine.  AdrianMF said the 3 cylinder Motor is an early example of the Ford Ecoboost engine!!!😄

One of the other aircraft Ford designed and built the Ford 15p shows they did like unusual aircraft, I have to say it looks gorgeous though and quite advanced  for it's time

Now that's very different Chris always nice to have these diversions when tackling larger scale in depth builds as I'm finding out.

Top job all round.

You're quite welcome Chris!    I did get a good chuckle from the Ecoboost comment. 😄 Too true as well.   I've always been a Ford aficionado; I mean, who wouldn't love the iconic Ford GT, or the more common Mustang for that matter; the list of Ford automotive achievements is long and illustrious.

For fans like myself, Ford always stands for First On Race Day.     Ford's contributions in aviation, and especially their efforts in WWII, are nicely examined in A.J. Baime's excellent book , "The Arsenal Of Democracy".    The project to build the vast Willow Run factory , where so many B-24s were built, makes for engrossing reading; highly recommended.

Thanks Gary, I do have a soft spot for the Mk2 Escort myself, I owned a couple of them when they were affordable and loved them, oooo the Mustang , I wish I'd owned one of those.  The Ford GT40 too, yummy.

I watched War Factories on quest and the Willow Run story is a very interesting one, weren't they turning out a B24 every hour .  That is something else.  Amazing. Imagine yhe size of that place!

Hi Dave, thank you fella, very kind .  It does look good in this scheme with the script.   An unusual machine for sure.   Likewise I had not heard of until I saw on Ebay last year when I purchased 4 kits from the same seller( 2 racing planes, this one and a Corben Super Ace) all lovely kits, this was the first of the bunch) have a look at the Ford 15p which looked very ahead of its time and unusual.

Thanks fella

Lovely model of the cute li'l "T-Ford of the air"!

According to Wiki, one journalist wrote after Ford's premiere showing:

I dreamed I was an angel

And with the angels soared

But I was simply touring

The heavens in a Ford.

But Charles Lindbergh called the Flivver the worst airplane he had flown. The prototype later crashed in the Atlantic due to fuel starvation, killing the pilot. He had forgotten that he'd plugged the fuel cap ventholes against moisture the previous evening, using toothpicks. Sic transit gloria mundi…

Beautiful modelling!

Kind regards,

Joachim
