MiniArt 1/35 LANZ D8532 Tractor

Recommended Posts

I darkened the medium blue a little bit, using some sea blue which was the intended colour according to MiniArt's colour chart.

It's a little darker than this picture shows, a real nice colour which can be easily broken up with a little drybrushing, maybe with some light grey.

Painted the wheels tonight. Black for the inner rims. There's a slight difference between the black primer which is airbrushed and super tight, and the brush painted Vallejo which gives a slightly rougher finish. Which is what I want anyway.

A mix of Cavalry Brown and Red Leather for the outer rims, I think it came out very nice.

German Grey for the tyres, which I always think is a good start for the dusty/dirty/faded tyre look.

I'm never 100% happy with the demarcation between rim and tyre but I know that a bit of dust and dirt will hide that nicely.

Do note the way in which the front tyre is very realisticly tucked into the rim.

OK, so it's minor progress but still progress... I clearcoated the little Lanzie.

Literally every time I have the clear out for some other project I say to myself, "let's get the Lanz out and clear it"... but I'm lazy and never do... but now I did!

It doesn't need much more work at all, just some detail painting, putting it together and a little bit of weathering... I just have to do it.

I take pleasure in imagining this beautiful blue tractor moving quietly through a field of rape dotted with poppies :)

I've done some decalling and detail painting on the Lanz today.

You probably know how I always like to assemble as much as I think I can get away with before paint. So this time, I should have painted that left side drum separately.

Painting that brass section was a little difficult, but I also still have to paint the exhaust which will be a task with the drum fixed as it this. You win some, you lose some 🙂

OK it was a bit of a challenge because some parts of the exhaust were hard to reach but I managed to get a decent result. It was the first time I used these Lifecolor paints, they are quite lovely. Very pigmented and easy to apply.

They are from a "rust and dust" set. I will use them more often.

Now I can start assembling the driver area. Some small parts, levers and such, need to be painted and glued on.

I finished all the small stuff in the driver's compartment.

It was a bit of a struggle to get those rear mudguards / side walls on. But they're ok now.

Then I went ahead with the wheels. A little weathering of the insides of the mudguards and the wheels themselves. I just used some Tamiya weathering powder, carefully, because this thing is incredibly fragile. I snapped the right rear roof support which is now drying. Handle with care... But it's a cute little thing so all is forgiven.

It's now only the windscreen, roof and clear parts for the lights.

After which I'll give it a very light rubbing with some more powder.

These 2 PE strips still needed to be attached. It would have been nice to put them on before paint but I don't think they would have survived. Little sloppy with the glue there, especially in close up, but don't worry, that's what weathering is for 🙂

Anyway, I pushed on, painted these strips more or less body colour (it was a mix) and finished it!

Fabulous WIP! These "hot-bulb" engines are interesting. The fuel is ignited by a metal surface heated by that fire pot, something like a glow plug. I love the frugal engineering of this little beastie, the steering wheel is used to get the engine turning; the engine rotation is reversed to reverse the tractor.

Plusmodel has some kits that may interest you.
