WYATT
LDV - Look, Duck, Vanish Well it would be if it wasn't armed with a .50cal M2 lol So I had some time to kill and i had this kit floating around in the stash as its a nice kit to play with, having already made a desert version of the SAS jeep and as i would doing my usual trip through my bookshelves I thought about what they used in the ETO and found that alot of "Recon" jeeps were armed to the teeth and well this is kind of a "what if" firmly based in reality, sort of if you had access or could get hold of the kit either by fair means or foul. first time really using plasticard other than just to block out gaps and open sponsons on shermans lol I made the "Jeep Basket"and cut out the gap for the spare, I removed the other mount for the spare as that has a new place for it I have cut down the bumper and added the strut supports from thin copper wire then bent in to clear the tyres, on alot of the recon/SAS jeeps the passenger side headlamp is removed and blanked off and the driver side one is left in place, for this I used sanded plasticard and add a smooth "stick on" clear gem for the head like lense and lamp, found the "A" frame from the US jeep kit from tamiya and some PE fret to make the mounting points on the bumper (these are normally seen on restored examples of jeeps handy for towing them around behind other vehicles going to a from shows) Dry fit of the stowage and gubbins, the M2 is from the academy sherman kit inc a spare barrel behind the on dash ammo feed for the 50cal, also replaced the handles with copper wire the shovel is also from the academy sherman, and yes the M2 is that big lol ready for primer, added some tarps using craft tissue paper, diluted PVA and alot of swearing this method is slightly better that the normal tissue but takes forever for the tissue paper to soak in the PVA and is abit tough to move around to get the shapes you want. Black vallejo mecha primer is used then once that was fully dry this once then blown over with a 50/50 mix of vallejo Russian Uniform WW2 and Olive Grey this makes a really nice colour that is not dissimilar from SCC 15, however the mix does not like the airbrush with the normal thinning so I need to thin it more and do more coats, once varnished (as i type it is drying now) it looks really nice. detail painting not done but painted in prior to weather (the wheels aren't glued on so i can get better access underneath) i have used to PVA glue to glue in some "spent brass" this was made with thin copper wire painted with vallejo brass and cut in to short lengths and dotted around the dash and floor. And that's all up to date, I am about 10 hours in as this is a small kit it just fun to have a blast with it! WYATT
Weathering and what not now done in the usual fashion: pin wash, dark grimey wash and weathering pigments, however with the pigments i kinda tried a new mix added red oxide pigment to a muddy colour mix.....I didn't think that such a small amount would make it that red it was really like a brick red/brick dust colour which i tried to tone down by adding another dusting of powders the rest of the completed photos are in the gallery in the RFI Cheers Jonathan
