Nice resin-work G.  I can’t remember your casting method- but whatever it is there bain’t be any nasty bubbles marring the fin(sh.  Respect (as always) :D

Thanks Steve! I use vacuum for casting resin, that way all the nasty bubbles come a-floating on the surface of the mould stub.  :)

Resin with a paint chaser!  Wwwwwaitress where’s my drink? 🤩

Simply beautiful craftsmanship Giorgio. The strake additions are fantastic and a true testament to you’re attention to detail.

Bravo that man. 😎

Thank you Johnny, glad you like it! The waitress should be around any minute with your drink...

'evening all, I only have some meager progress to report - busy WE and all

There were only two things missing on the HASEGAWA kit before painting, to wit the central fixed canopy portion and the slime lights. The former still needed the addition of the relevant PE frames (which I haven't done as of yet), while for the latter I have PE parts from the Eduard set, like these:

slimelights1

I only have one set for one aircraft, though, so I decided to replicate them with aluminium tape for the other. I cut them out using my Curio (this tape is surprisingly easy to cut)

slimelights2

I decided, for no particular reason, to use these on the HASEGAWA kit (to be completed with their decals), while I will use the PE lights on the FM kit, and paint the lights in. ANyway, here they are in place, port:

slimelights3

and starboard

slimelights4

That's it for this update, I'm afraid. All comments welcome

I believe the term is 'slowly but surely.'

Sometimes too slowly and not surely, but I'll take it, thank you!

So, paint.... in a minute, bear with me first:

the central (fixed) section of the HASEGAWA canopy took a bath in Aqua Gloss

hase_centralcanopy1

after which it got masked with @Gene K Oramask masks, outside:

hase_centralcanopy2

and inside

hase_centralcanopy3

(I actually used the same masks for the inside as for the outside; they're slightly larger than needed, but that's for the best - the outside paint job will define the correct edges.

I then glued the PE frames in place with Gator's Grip

hase_centralcanopy4

hase_centralcanopy5

and eventually.... paint! :D  I airbrushed Tamiya Flat black on it

hase_centralcanopy6

Internal masks removed

hase_centralcanopy7

hase_centralcanopy8

While I had the airbrush out, I wanted to test the paint method I intend to follow with both the airframes: in order to retain as much as possible the very fine detail (especially for the FM kit), I decided to skip the primer and base coat them with Tamiya Flat Black thinned with cellulose thinner, so that it "bites" into plastic. So I used a scrap resin copy of the FM vari-ramp as paint mule. Black base (a couple of thin coats)

test1

Then two different Lifecolor greys

test2

Then a gloss coat

test3

As you can see, all the variramp holes still show up, so I think I'm onto something here :)

Anyroad up, I glued the central canopy section in place

hase_centralcanopy9

After some refining, I painted and weathered the PE frames

hase_centralcanopy10

The rear view mirror will get painted at a later stage

hase_centralcanopy11

Finally, I glued in the two dorsal antennae: they both come from the HASEGAWA kit, and none of them were intended for the original box schemes

hase_antenne1

They will need refining (thinning, slight reshaping, rounding edges), but I'll do that once they cured.

That's it for this update, all comments welcome

Those cockpits (cockpii?) are looking so... well...  just... like... well... cockpits, Giorgio.

I mean they look like the real thing. Real cockpits.

Excellent detailing as we've come to expect from a modeler of your stature.

Don't know if I'd go as far as to call some dribbles of thinned black and a splatter of grey's actual painting though.  I think you're stretching things a bit there. :D

Thank you Tony and Johnny, but most of the credit for the Hase cockpit goes to Eduard's PE parts, I just added a few cables and over-painted the dark gull grey on the prepainted PEs... :)

Alright, here's some progress - but first, slightly OT, a few tests I made with the recently purchased UV resin (following @perdu's advice).  I first tried it onto an Oyumaru mold

uv1

and ?d say it really captured the details

uv2

I then tried it as a glaze, and it definitely worked

uv3

Super clear!

Then I tried some various sized drops on different materials: alu foil first (showing the UV curing setup too  )

uv4

It stuck like hell, no way to remove the resin. I did try on wood too:

uv5

and it came off only removing the paint layer from the wood. The best result was on the Oyumaru paste:

uv6

The resin comes right off and it's smooth and clear. Interesting!

Back to the model: I refined the antennae

hase_antenne2

Then spent quite some time with the nose wheel strut dry fit in place to glue the PE parts and the brass rod in place

hase_nosebay1

Eventually, it was time for some masking: cockpit

hase_masking1

Air intakes

hase_masking2

hase_masking3

Aux air intakes

hase_masking4

I then airbrushed the while model with Tamiya Flat Black, thinned with cellulose thinner. SOme remedial work to do, after that:

hase_primer1

and some areas to respray:

hase_primer2

hase_primer3

So this was her in her black dress:

hase_primer4

hase_primer5

The above pic is over-exposed, just to show that I didn't bother spraying a completely uniform black coat - it helps achieving the weathered effect I'm after.

It was then time to airbrush the first camouflage color, FS36270 in the form of Lifecolor Grey

hase_camo1

hase_camo2

hase_camo3

Again, this was airbrushed in an uneven way, alternating up close with narrow lines and far away with a wider spray pattern. This is now curing, before I spray a protective gloss coat on it and mask for the second camouflage color.

Till then, all comments welcome

interesting experiments with the resin Giorgio. That does open up some future possibilities, and if my brain would wake up I might be able to figure out what some of them were (only on first coffee of the day)

Okay.  That counts as paint I suppose.

I use UV resin often. For windows and similar glazing, just cover the hole with a piece of clear packaging tape and apply the resin from the inside. That’s how I did the side windows on my 1/72 O-2 Skymaster:

To make clear lenses, place drops of the resin on a sheet of glass. Once cured, they can be easily pried off with a knife blade.
