1/144 - Lun-class MD-160 Ekranoplan by Takom - released

Takom is well known by AFV - aka targets - modellers not really by aircraft modellers.

There's a recent announcement in the Chinese producer Facebook with what is obviously a Lun-class MD-160 Ekranoplan. So, soon something flying in the Takom range of kits? Time will tell.

  • Homebee changed the title to 1/?? - Lun-class MD-160 Ekranoplan "Caspian Monster" by Takom ?

It would be nice to have in 1/72 - showing its size compared to other Soviet/Russian aircraft.

Goes with the other flying boats intended for operation with the Northern Fleet close to Norwegian waters.

In 1:350 ship scale, it would be too small for Takom to bother.

Interior pictures in the link below and YouTube has a story to tell

In 1/72 scale it would be over 1 meter long. I rather expect it to be 1/144.

There is nice visualisation of this ekranoplan:

A 1/72 scale Lun would be nice....

Excellent size comparison with the Bear, I didn't realise quite how large they were. Are these your models?

Must have been fun trying to concentrate on flying the thing, mere inches above the water, with that going on right above your head.

Thunderous applause!  You won't believe it, but the U.S. Navy had an abortive program to test one of the ex-Soviet WIGs in the mid-90s.  Although our resident expert on ground effect was convinced that the Alexiev Bureau had gone down a wrong path, and that a delta wing was the correct configuration.  There have been reports of RAF Vulcans setting up for 300 knots at 1,000 ft, descending to ~30 ft....and accelerating past 400 kts without touching the throttles.

I think that 144 would be a great scale for this kit. As much as I would love a 1/72, that would be too large to manage.

I have long considered the Anigrand kit, but it has some issues and the price point put me off. Don't get me wrong, the price is appropriate for what you get for the large resin castings, but it was just too much for my personal budget.

As an aircraft builder, I have the Takom MAZ-537 double kit as a prime mover to go with a Tu-22M3, and it is a beautiful kit. If the Lun is up to anything close to that standard, I'll be in.

Cheers,

Hoops

Yes - all in 1/144 scale......KM, Lun and 14M1P are Anigrand resin kits, A-90 'Orylonok' is the Revell kit corrected.

Modifying the Revell kit is here :http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/modl_a-90.html

If you are interested, I scratch-built the A-90 in 1/72 scale many years ago - (including my photos of the real thing) :- http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/model_a-90 scratchbuild.html

I really hope it’s 1/144, just means I’ll have to build a baby flanker next to it for size comparison.

I hope it's 1/144. Even in that scale it's got to be big
