The Spadgent
Good e evening RC fans. Paint has happened. I wanted to finish today but after reading @hendie’s vampire thread this morning the last thing I wanted to do was rush the paint. I’m also going to gloss before masking and doing other coats, just in case. First up I masked the lights. The box at shows the side lights as little domes. I might try and find some bits from the spare box.🤔 Also masked the front. Wondering how to mask Willies Massive head I came to the conclusion that I shouldn’t over think things. 🤣 Why I started on the most important part I don’t know but coat one down. I let that dry and moved on to the can. “If any one can. Jerry Ca......” sorry. 🥺 and rear. That fake panel has worked ok. Front grille. And dash. I’ve almost used an entire pot of Olive drab on this. 😲 Second coat on the main body. I like the look of that. I’m going to leave it over night before I top coat then mask for the other colours. I built and tidied up the roll cage and gave that a prime. And rear. Also painted the rear tyre. I’m doing the colours pretty much by the book as this is the Willy I’ve always wanted. (Sounds weird writing that down🤣🤣) Any way innuendo aside I painted a few other bits and bobs that I forgot to photo and they are all now dying and awaiting a top coat. As you can see I moved him off the bench to the magic red box to dry completely. Meanwhile I decided to start my 453rd Museum build. Pop along and say hi if you like mustangs. 🐎 Thanks for dropping by. Can’t wait to get this thing coping around the garden. 😀😃🙃 Take care and as always . Happy modelling. I don’t know it it was the white primer but the paint was sooo delicate. Scratched right off. Madness. All god now though. 😇 14 hours ago, CedB said: Seconded! Worked really well though. 🤩👌🙌

81-er
Ah, the joys of RC! I've been through an awful lot of Tamiya's catalogue (a Hornet, several M-chassis Minis, a couple of Mad Bulls, a couple of Lunchboxes, a Stadium Blitzer and a hell of a lot more besides), a couple of Losi's, far more Mardave's than I care to think of, and a few Schumacher's (an SST 2000, a Fireblade, and 3 or 4 Cat 2000's). I used to race the Mardave's and Schumacher's when I was doing my A Levels, fun times. I'm liking the way this is shaping up. Two suggestions I'd make, if that's ok. First off, I'd recommend swapping the battery connectors for some Dean's connectors if you're handy with a soldering iron. Tamiya ones can be a real pain to unlock and also have a nasty habit of melting if you draw high currents. The second one is grab yourself a beater body to run it with and keep this beauty for the shelf, I'd hate to see you damage the paintwork after all that effort.

RCs are fun for sure. I’m going to use this shell to run her. I’m not that precious about it really, these thing are meant to be used right. 🤩 To be fair there’s more paint going into this than I originally thought. It’s the size that I’m not used to. 😃
The Spadgent
Hey you lot. A little more done on Willy over the weekend. I’m also building a 1/32 Mustang so I’m splitting my time. making was done, I used Tamiya for curves and standard Tamiya tape. The Tamiya for curves was really good for the body. It conformed to the ruffles really well. The seat and box got mailed too. Also the rear arches. Oh and the most ridiculous bit of masking in the world. 🤣 RED. ❤️ and boots. And gloves. Aaand the gear stick. 😁 The roll bars got a pre shade. These are black but I’ll do them in rubber which is my go to for just off black. Looks a little light but when glossed looks fine. Spent the day out at a Flea Market in Shrewsbury so Didnt get chance to do any more unfortunately but boy was it god to be out. 😇Before heading to bed I Had to take some of the masking off. Oh man that’s lovely. A few spots here and there but over all I’m happy. Really looking forward to getting the stickers on. Just the silver bits and a few bits and bobs to spray and I can move onto the brush painting and finish this off. Great fun though even if it is taking a little longer than expected. Hope you all had a great weekend. Thanks for looking in. Johnny.

The Spadgent
Well it looks like I love decals but I’m not such a big fan of stickers. @giemme look away now. 🙈 So it wouldn’t stay put, I cut it to try and make it fit and only made it worse. 🙊 Nothing else for it. Giorgio you should be proud. 😇 I did it. 💪🤪 Here’s a closer one as it may never happen again. 🤣 While this was drying many other parts got masked and painted. Steering wheel. Nitro bottle. Head lights. Then everything got unmasked. 💆♂️ Rear box of tricks. Winch. Willy himself. Still have to hand paint all the details. Started on the helmet. Wheel turned out nice. Look at ma shaaarrney baalllls. 😂 Head lights look good. Wish they were see through mind. Really happy with the bottle. And last but not least. The star of the show. 🤩 A few touch ups but they will vanish under the top coats. 🥰🥰 Right then what was that I was saying about stickers. Nearly done. I can’t take her out and whizz around the garden. If it ever stops raining. ⛈ Thanks for looking in. Hope you’re enjoying the build. Happy modelling. FG2Si
The paintwork looks fantastic. I've found one at an RC shop nearby and I'm very tempted to grab it. Not sure my wife would be happy as there's already too many in the house (not including my sons'). 1

How about proposing a full-size version of a Tamiya car and then negotiate down to the RC version?

The only problem with that is the Honda Beat already in the garage. Being a Kei car, it's about 1/2 scale already. Here it is next to our Honda Fit (Jazz) 1

The Spadgent
Afternoon you lot. I had to get this done. It’s so close. Soo ran at the last few tasks. I pushed the Mustang to the back and got ready for the final blast. Willy’s details got painted. And the first pass at his face. I’m going for old school Tamiya. Well at least what’s in my minds eye. So the painterly look was front and centre in my mind. ❤️ the little indicators got painted as did the breaks, although there were some stickers for those too. More stickers. NITRO!!! The grille got a black wash. And more stickers. This was all done yesterday. Everything got a protective TS-13 and got left to dry. This morning saw the final push.💪🍒 I stuck on the chassis stickers. And started shading his face and mask. I used metal varnish for the lights then did a TS-13 and the crackled. 😩 I don’t really mind as they’re meant to be a bit wobbly Any way so I’m leaving them. Look good on actually. 🙌😀 I had added a few lighter shades and now Willy was ready for a wash. ( @CedB must be busting a gasket. 🤪😮🤣 ) I have decided to only wash a few bits as it’ll be getting actually dirty for real soon enough. 😜 and With that done the final parts can start to come together. Just going to make some dinner. I’ll post up later on with the final lap.🤩 Take care and thanks for following if you indeed did. Johnny.
