Duncan B
Here we go again. I was sent three sets of 3D printed compressor fan and turbine blades for my GWH Su-27/35s yesterday from a fellow modeller. Very nice they are too (I won't mention names or post photos as I think they were done at his work Duncan B

Mr T
A trip to Halifax Modellers World on Tuesday netted a pre ordered of the AModel Hector and Avis Edgley Optica, a plane I remember cropping up at Air Shows in the eighties. So nice to go into a shop and have a look around.
lasermonkey
I saw an Eduard 1/72 Profipack Spitfire VIII on eBay for just £9.90 posted and well, it would have been rude not to. There was a Profi Fw190A-8 for the same price, if you’re quick.
treker_ed
Not modelling related at all... Moved into a new house back in 2013, jump forward to 2021 and we are only just getting round to changing the light fittings that were put in by the developers! Called into one of the local lighting specialists, with the intention of just looking before going onto a couple of other stores (John Lewis, Dunelm, B&Q) and we found lights we loved for the living room, Hall, Landing and my workroom/study (and the wifes office but decided to leave for another time!) Only the living room light in stock so came away with that, the rest on order - Over £300 of lighting purchased and on order! Next we needed to call into the city centre (in MK it's a weird set up - conceived as a covered town centre shopping area, but has evolved into a "mall" type shopping centre) and upgraded our Sky HD to Sky Q so we can also get the 4K channels as we had to recently replace our TV as the old TV died on us (circuit board went and was more to repair than it was worth!). Getting that fitted on 5th May, same as we pay monthly now, but.... £99 for the upgrade! Damned expensive 2 hours out and about for the first time since shops reopened - hopefully wont be doing that again in a hurry🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑 Edited April 22, 2021 by treker_ed

Just moved from Sky back to Virgin as the latter had a brilliant 18 month contract offer, but have to say I think the Sky Q box is miles better than Virgin's latest effort (which I find worse to use than the old TIVO box we had when last with Virgin in 2017!) Had chance to look around but was a good boy and didn't add to my purchases. Tbh I am now at the stage where most buys are to replace old stuff or something to make modelling life a bit easier.

Strange really, here in a backwater in South Wales we were among the first to get 'cable tv'....!! Keith MK had a Cable system (and was I think the one of the very first in the country to have one) originally operated by BT, sold to Nynex, then taken over by Virgin. However, it operated on a copper cable system and up to about 3 or 4 years ago, Virgin who owned it refused to upgrade the cables to fibre optic! The original system was installed due to a policy by the New Towns Commission that refused to allow external TV aerials to be installed in the new areas of the city. Therefore you had to sign up (no option if you wanted TV) to the community Cable TV system (almost like a compulsory extra TV licence). Slowly over the years, as Satellite TV took hold, they had no choice but to relax the policy and eventually, when the Commission for New Towns and its successors were scrapped/amalgamated into other bodies, the policy was eventually scrapped, the cable system was forgotten about, and TV aerials were allowed along with satellite dishes. Then about 3 years ago, Virgin finally decided that they were going to start digging up huge swathes of MK to install fibre optic cables - whether they had forgotten about all the existing ducting they already owned, I don't know, but they didn't use it to run the fibre cables, but dug new trenches instead - it was absolute chaos in some areas. They got to Bletchley, did Bletchley and then stopped! I live a type of development called an Urban Village just outside of Bletchley, but still within the MK boundaries (a new build still being developed). They did not bother coming this far! So if we want anything other than terrestrial TV it's Freesat, Freeview, BTTV or Sky. Similarly if we want any other broadband provider other than BT, we can, but you are stuck with 1-2mb speeds because we are so far from the exchange. BT (at the moment) are the only providers of Fibre Optic broadband services to our development. I understand that this is an agreement between BT and the developers at the moment.
keefr22
We firstly had cable by a company called Cabletel - I forget how long ago it was, must be a couple of decades) but until last week (when I finally remembered to ask an engineer!) we still had the cable coming in a duct through the living room wall! Dispensed with that now! They did much the same digging trenches through much of Swansea, (and not repairing roads and pavements particularly well) but the service was pretty good. My daughter and family live in a new build development near Alton, and I was amazed that the developer didn't make any provision for fibre optic installation when they were building it - probably couldn't get any money out of any of the providers to do so! Mr T
A couple or so years ago Virgin dug up all the pavements around us to put in fibre optic. An other contractor then had to come along and make good the pavements after Leeds City Council refused to sign off the work on the dug up pavements as basically the trenches had been filled with the stuff that been dug out and then someone jumped on it a few times. I exaggerate, but the guys they used on our road came in a white van, had no PPE (ie boots and ear defenders) and used the noisiest and ineffectual pneumatic tamper. Quite fun eavesdropping on the Virgin guy and someone from LCC having an argument. The best thing was it didn't work as they had botched the connections.

lasermonkey
A couple of eBay bargains today: a Special Hobby Mirage F.1 and an Airfix Spitfire Vc, both at too good a price to pass by. I've been wanting a Mirage F.1 since I saw a beautifully built one on BM recently. I'm easily influenced! And yeah, I know I said I wouldn't be buying any of the Airfix Spit Vcs in a recent rant, but at the price, I could factor in a replacement spinner and still be happy with the overall cost.
Pete in Lincs
Two books delivered earlier, Victor Boys and Vulcan Boys. Both from Music Magpie, via the bay, at very good prices indeed. alt-92
Meatball machine. Otaki/Arii Goshiki (Ki-100 - Radial engined development of the Ki-61) Looks pretty nice, considering this is a 1970s kit. Non-plasticy bits: DCS World: Channel map, WW2 asset pack and your usual suspects. Also Syria map, which could be a standin for North-Africa/Med - say, Malta Spits in DCS?
