Popular Post Gisbod Posted April 20, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 20, 2021 (edited) Hello all, I saw one of these built at a model show a few years back and thought how sweet it looked - it went into my mental stash... If you want modelling nostalgia and therapy at the bench - get one! 1974 moulding but you’d never guess, really crisp, fine detail and nice fit too. Takes me right back to a wet and windy afternoon in 1978 sat at the kitchen table covered in glue and Humbrol 😛 I haven’t really added anything, just a little brass for the machine guns, basic seatbelts and that’s about it. Although I did have to ditch the 70’s decals and as I couldn’t find any aftermarket options for the Siskin, I used paint masks based on the original decal sheet. I’ve already bought the Matchbox Hawker Fury and have an Airfix Bulldog to add to this mini inter war collection. I’ve even got my eye on their Seafox. Any other Matchbox gems that spring to mind? I seem to recall a Boeing ‘Peashooter’? Anyway, without further ado - here she is - 29 Sqn, North Weald, 1928. Thanks for looking, Guy 🙂 And alongside the old 50’s Airfix Hawker Demon, who said you need high tech kits and a ton of aftermarket to have fun modelling! Edited April 22, 2021 by Gisbod 125 4
TonyOD Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 One of those "how on earth is that 1/72" builds. Absolutely magnificent. 5
Eric Mc Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Beautifully done. Matchbox inter-war biplanes I can think of offhand are - Hawker Fury Boeing F4B Fairey Seafox Fairey Swordfish Supermarine Stanraer Supermarine Walrus Handley Page Heyford Curtiss SBC-4 Helldiver Revell did a P-26 Peashooter 1

shortCummins Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 both are little beauties, hard to believe they're only 1/72 rgds John(shortCummins) 1
Plastic Bonsai Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Marvelous!!! What did you use for the rigging? If you can find it Modeldecal did a sheet on interwar RAF aircraft for the Siskin, Fury and Bulldog. The Oxford blue they used on the roundels looked fantastic. Someone should do some more. 2
Wulfman Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 A superb Siskin, marvellous modelling ! Wulfman 1
noelh Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Fond memories of building that kit. Whoever designed the Matchbox biplanes and indeed this Siskin sesquiplane really knew their job. They were nearly always eminently buildable and accurate for the time. Great job on it too. 4
IanC Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Fabulous. Matchbox were quite adventurous in their choice of subject. I wasn't, so sadly missed out on gems such as this. 2
keith in the uk Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Lovely job , i have the Aeroclub 1.48th example to build soon , your model gives me something to aspire too . 1
jean Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Congratulations for an absolute work of art. You did take modelling to a whole new dimension. JR 1

Just fishing line as per usual. Yes, I did look for that (sheet no.31) but couldn’t source one, but hey, masks are better anyway! 10 hours ago, Eric Mc said: Beautifully done. Gisbod Posted April 20, 2021 Author Posted April 20, 2021 .... Although looking online that does seem to be cruder than the Siskin. Did they vary very much? Don’t think I was too bothered by subtle surface detail when I was 10... Guy
John Masters Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Lovely builds! Superb detail. And it reminded me that I need a Siskin for my 19 Squadron Personal Build Project. I found one of the kits on the auction site for very little, including shipping. 1
cngaero Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Absolutely superb. The Siskin is one of my all time favourite Matchbox kits. 1
alex Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Excellent build, I was just wondering how you coped with the old decals, then read that it were masks! Well done! Alex 1
