I do love those Crosses of Lorraine...

Cor ..... thats a nice choice, John

Thanks Martin.  I know the Vichy aircraft are more colourful and striking but I just can't bring myself to make one of them.

Plus, I am not sure we have anything from the Free French CAF yet, do we?

Good morning John

Very interesting subject as Sgt Marcel Milan while assigned to a Fighter Group based in Sénégal managed to escape from Thiés for Bathurst in British Gambia on February 10th 1941 aboard this aircraft and join the Free French Forces .

Sadly He died on November 28, 1941 in a flying accident ..

Have fun wit your build ..

I'm feeling a sudden need to do a bit of background research on Free French forces in the Central African Republic.  😀

Please do.  I know very little about them.

Let's see what's in the box, shall we?

Sprue...looks good.  AZmodel detail level, similar to their Spitfire and Bf-109 kits.

51127880453_89cf73dae4_c_d.jpg

Clear parts look very nice and clear.

Decals look in register.  I am a bit concerned about the white areas.  They look a bit thin.  This is par for the course with AZmodel kits unfortunately.  Not the first time I have encountered this.  They look good otherwise.

And the instructions are the standard AZmodel design.

So I'll give the interior bits some grey primer and start in on her tomorrow afternoon.

I did their Mohawk Mk.III a little while back. A very nice kit, just the usual short run 'foibles' but nothing of concern. Looking forward to seeing it in these colours.

So far...

I think this is fun.  No decal for the seat harness.  AZmodel suggests cutting these out what a pair of scissors.  What kind of modeller would I be if I did not follow the directions?

First some Interior Green...

51129543882_a7afbd0a11_c_d.jpg

And I assembled the Pratt and Whitney R-1830-SC-G (I think...maybe an 1820...)...95% of it will not be seen, but I want the face to at least look decent.

And we're off!

It'll be interesting to see how the paper harnesses turn out - they could look pretty good

I am sorry to disappoint Cliff...I ended up using the masking tape after all.  The paper cut-outs were so tiny, smaller than a decal would have been.  Probably to scale, but barely visible.  Even so, once I close up the fuselage, the masking tape harnesses will be all but out-of-view.

Here are these pieces...

Motor attached to the firewall...

And the interior snug in one half of the fuselage.

I'll add the firewall/motor to the fuselage next, then close it up tonight.

Nice looking build John, I like your choice of subject, a kit I've not purchased yet, I must rectify that. Definitely R-1830 being two rows & 14 cylinders, as these were. I'll try to keep up. :)

Steve.

The fuselage closed up nicely.  Some seams and some light fettling will be needed.  The motor is installed as well.  No dire issues here.

I cleared out the cowling gun barrels...

51133691291_19a2b6ddd3_c_d.jpg

And it looks alright.  Once the glue has set I will clean up the edges and fill in the gaps.  Once again, not terrible.

Wing pieces assembled...

And this is where I stay for the night...

Almost forgot...did this.  No mucking about with the decal.

Hawk is coming along nicely :)

Those paper seatbelts are a fun idea - too bad they did not prove to be useful. A Revell kit I did a while back had something similar. F9F Panther, photo reconnaissance version had the camera lenses printed on the paper. I ended up using them, even if they were rather crappy black & white images on crappy quality paper. Still better than nothing I suppose? But for the belts, it's hard to beat the tape belts - they are easy, cheap and look the part.
