onethritysecond
@TimLucas kindly supplied me some mirrors after I accidentally threw mine away in a tidy up (yes, I know) so can now publish the finished conversion of the Revell Mk 2 rally Escort into a 1.1 base model. This took a lot of work and involved scratch building most of the engine - you can see what was involved in the build thread I have noticed after taking the pictures that the bonnet isn't on quite tidy in some of them but I had already packed it away and couldn't face getting it out again - it does sit properly normally! Last few pictures show it sitting with some VW contemporaries that I built during the first lock down, showing how dated the Ford was getting by that point. Hope you like it - similar treatment to a Mk1 Escort may follow at some point! Chris \
Bengalensis
Very nice to see a plain everyday version, often overlooked. Well done!
Natter
There were so many of these on the roads back in the day, 1.1s or 1.3s, Really, really good to see one modelled, and better in the pale blue than Ford's oh-so-70's beige. PS - love that Scirocco.
Vince1159
Beautiful looking MkII,they might've been dated but Ford had the last laugh with the amount of Escorts still on the road and Rallying... Windy37
I followed the WIP for this and it's turned out really well . Great engine build , nice to see something other than a BDA in there !! 3 hours ago, Natter said: There were so many of these on the roads back in the day, 1.1s or 1.3s, Really, really good to see one modelled, and better in the pale blue than Ford's oh-so-70's beige. Kitkent
Very nice to see a normal car made from a rally car. My dad had exactly this car, except it may have been a powerful 1.3! Chris.
stevehnz
I like that a lot, I had a couple of Mk 2s & my parents had 3 in total, long favourites & much missed cars. You've done & cracking job on this, it really looks the part. Steve.
klubman01
Excellent work on this one. As others have said, makes a change from an RS version. Trevor
Marco F.
Superb result!! You did a great job downsizing a rally car to an ordinary plain Jane. It looks perfect for me and I enjoyed your WIP very much Marco F

SpeedMonkey
Excellent build. May I ask what paint did your use for the light blue?
Chimpion
Great result! By the way, is the Scirocco in 1/25th scale? I don't remember them being smaller than the Golf and Escort.

The paint is actually proper 70s Ford Olympic Blue (although I kept calling it Bermuda blue in the work in progress thread) that I bought from Halfords - there are many 70s colours still available as they are strong colours suitable for general hobby projects, not just cars! Halfords aerosols leave quite a good finish out of the can too, just needing minimal polishing. Chris

Apart from making a RHD dash and putting hinges on the bonnet it is built out of the box, painted VW silver of some sort that I was originally going to use on the Golf but went with Mars Red instead. Most people seem to consider 1/25th close enough to 1/24th to not matter but I really notice it, epecially when I was considering swapping parts between it and the 1/24th Revell Golf GTi (can't remember what or why now) and side by side the difference is pretty obvious. AMT also did the Mk1 Golf GTi in 1/25th which crops up fairly often. Chris

For a big car there is a noticeable difference when you place two versions of the same prototype next to one another. I compared a 1/25 Plymouth GTX with a 1/24 Plymouth Road Runner and there was about 5mm between them even though in reality it would be the same body. In the comparison photo the Scirocco doesn't look particularly out of scale with the Escort between it and the Golf. It helps that the Scirocco is quite a delicate shape anyway and perspective on the photo also works in your favour.
Anteater
Brilliant, excellent work. Now, how about scratch building some big arches for it and dropping in a BDA and an Atlas...? 😉
Merc-57
Hello from Finland I've been reading on this forum for a long time without registering myself but... This Escort build was so unbelievably nice that I absolutely had to register just to be able to give You all the credits, hats off's, jaw drops and praising that You and Your model deserve. Such a sweeeeeet build of one of my favourite cars ever... My hat is off to You Rocking regards
Coors54
What a great build and so nostalgic for me, I had a 1.1GL in a terracotta red as my first company car. I was a snotty young rep for a national motor factor and thought I was it with a company car! I remember taking it to Wales to follow the RAC rally in 1977, my bosses would not have liked how it was thrashed that weekend. Great job. Ologist
That's an absolutely fantastic build, and rekindled memories of my own metallic blue 1.3 Mk.II used (as well as for other things) in Scottish Road Rallies in the early 80's. The simplicity of the time when you could virtually climb into the engine bay with the engine still in situ and work on it. I'd be tempted to have a go at a similar conversion, but mine was a four door. That might be just too challenging. Jon
