What’s flying over your house #3

Just spotted two B-52's very high over swanage. One is 61-0003 callsign GORGON12. Looking at their track they came out of Fairford this morning and flew down to Romania, close to the Ukranian border near the black sea, Orbited that area for a long time before returning. Looks like they are over North Devon now, perhaps about to return to Fairford.

2x Typhoons very low over Poole just now.

very unusual place to see them.

Wonder if they have been doing a spot of affiliation with the Tank chaps?

Just seen this and I recall seeing them that day and thinking the same!

Nice, Terry. I was following them up from Southern Italy and, as they were approaching the Milan area I alerted Giorgio @Giorgio N but they went too far South of him. Then as I thought They were coming my way they turned to the West. Hey ho!

Two more over you soon, Terry @Terry1954. They are running in from the W at around FL210

Saw you post too late but I see them on tracker now 60-0044 and 60-0018, over Hastings?

Had an RCAF C-130 over last night, looked like the same route as the Tunisian C-130 the night before. I'll keep my ears open tonight.

I’m having a week in the Lake District, and while out walking at the northern end of Derwent Water today we had four F-15s in line astern at under 1000 ft, flying north from Borrowdale and banking off to fly along Bassenthwaite Lake.

First time I’ve seen US aircraft over the Lakes.

And a C130 low over Keswick yesterday, a Hawk this afternoon and an old Jet Provost on Sunday. Quite a week!

[edit] and a Eurofighter/Typhoon today.

Regards,

Adrian

RAF C-130J ZH889 at low level around 22.30 last night, just north of Stratford Upon Avon, headed West.

To see this at low level in the dark…… and the low level of noise.

Impressive is the only way to describe it.
I wonder what they were practising…

RCAF Cp-140 yesterday, an unusual noise, assumed it was an Allison Hercules, even got to see it as the cloud was high enough

Yes, Stu. She was 140117, although showing as 140120.

Not a thread I've frequented, we seldom get much other than the usual AirNZ domestic liners, ATR72s & Q300s, but the last little while threw up a few odd ones, a private Beech King Air heading out in the same direction two days in a row at much the same time, what looked like a scale Mustang accompanied by a Chipmunk, one morning & sounding much nicer than the local rescue helicopter BK-117 that we hear fairly often, being under it's approach route from the South, was it's older brother, a Bo-105, sounding very crisp for a chopper.

Popped to the garage to get my dinner and heard one of the regular Embrarers flying into City, but a car backfiring in the next street made me look up and spot it actually had 4 engines, and was a Singapore Cargo 747 going into Heathrow, a welcome sight.

A good day today: a Miles Gemini and Chipmunk in formation, a Leopard Moth and a Spitfire TR.9. Also quite a few butterflies, mostly small tortoiseshells and peacocks. It’s unusual to see this many butterflies in mid March, certainly in this neck of the woods.

I've seen two Brimstones so far!! :) The harbingers of Spring :). I'm starting to keep a daily eye on my Privet Hawkmoths. I have three that pupated and, I reckon, they'll be hatching in April-May :)

I’ve probably seen five or six brimstones so far, with maybe a few more peacocks, a couple of commas and small tortoiseshells being the most abundant.

Last year, I think in April, the first butterfly of the year for me was a small copper, which was apparently very early.
I love hawkmoths. I haven’t seen a privet yet, just poplar and elephant.
