What’s flying over your house #3

Not exactly over my house but three South Korean Hercs trundled in to Boscombe Down today, taking the coastal route to Southampton and then routing North. They are here to support the Black Eagles team’s arrival soon.

Not over my house but if you live in Devon then you had Typhoons QRAS0001 & QRAS0002 tanking from a Voyager and then they went off and intercepted a French AF Falcon 2000 which had been orbiting just north of the Scilly Isles and escorted it all the way across the Channel to about 30 miles off the French coast! Not sure what that was all about but QRA callsigns.

Only just come across this topic but just to make the WW2 fighter fans jealous we're under the regular flight path of the Biggin Hill historic aircraft joyrides and thus enjoy the almost daily spectacle of a Spitfire banking over our house as it turns.  Sometimes it has D-Day markings other times not so there's obviously at least two making the trips.

Actually its 3 not just the two seaters flying about Kent, the Kent Spitfire TA805 is in the air most days during the warmer months, that has stripes as well

FINALLY something interesting over my house multiple times yesterday - a Boeing P8 Poseidon.  Not bad for Orkney and beats the usual Saabs and Islanders.  Did some lazy circuits to the east of Hoy, then 3 or for more circuits over Orkney mainland (between 4500 ft and 6500 ft), and then some tighter circuits to the east.  Presumably this was just training as it did do a run over Kirkwall Airport.

All three departed Boscombe Down this morning between 09:00 and 09:30, overflying me here in clear skies on their way home :)

Yesterday afternoon saw a Hawker Cygnet repro fly over, presumably from Old Warden. That was a first. Also saw a Chipmunk and a couple of Spitfires. A walk later in the afternoon produced the first hummingbird hawk moth of the year, more small tortoiseshells than you could shake a stick at, meadow browns, large skippers and plenty of damselflies. Later that night I had an eyed hawk moth in the garden, this being the first time I have seen one. I managed to get a few snaps which I shall add later if possible.

So far today there's been a Spitfire, which did a lap of the village.
