Thanks Mark.

Dixon of Dock Green it was standard viewing in my house growing up.

I've seen The Blue Lamp but that is definitely before my time. :D

Cheers,

Alistair

I think I'm right in saying the PC Dixon died in the film, but was resurrected for the series?

"Evening all."

Well a Wildcat dear chap.

And looks like you are doing a damn fine job there.

I did the Airfix one and the U/C was fiddly to say the least.

Yours looks just great.

I will follow if I may.

Simon.

It just goes to show why he made such a mess of Operation Market.

Lovely internals and great work on the engine - nice :)

Thanks very much Ced,

Again there won't be much visible.

At least there no rear guns to deal with on this one.

Cheers,

Alistair

I have made a major error in the build. When I was building the engine I followed the instructions and thought I had everything lined up properly.

It appears not.

The discovery came about as I was trying a dry fit of the engine to the cowling. The fit was so tight I couldn't get it back out again and didn't want to force it for fear of splitting the cowling seams.

So, I thought might as well stick it on to the fuselage after I'd sanded down the Mr. Surfacer.

This is what I saw.

As you can see it's a bit squint.  Lesson learned and nothing I can do about it now.

As the fit was so tight there was a minute gap between the cowling and the fuselage but a smear of PPP and a wet cotton bud have dealt with that.

The wings have been glued together and the seams checked.

Finally the canopy has been masked.

I'll fit the windscreen part later tonight and let it set properly then pop the canopy on and it will be time to check the seams with paint.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

Coming together very nicely, but what a PITA about the engine! It's not that visible in the photos, so hopefully it'll be fine with the airscrew in place.

Looking forward to seeing the next instalment :)

Ach, Stuff Happens.

Every day is a learning day and it's not exactly a major fail.

Onwards and upwards.

Your sangfroid when faced with disaster is admirable Alistair. Besides, if you make sure the prop goes round when you attach it, you can manipulate it so that no one will ever notice anyway.

Excellent progress! It’s really coming together!

Thanks Craig,

The way I look at it is it's only plastic and besides even if the prop doesn't hide it too well it can be angled in the cabinet to disguise it.

Of course it could be it came out of the factory like that after a very hungover shift. 😉

I sprayed the canopy and windscreen with Colourcoats Interior Green.

After that had dried I tested the seams on the fuselage with some primer and as they were good stuck some other bits on.

Looking at this picture I may have solved the engine problem.   but may now have a propeller problem.

As the underside lights had been pretty much sanded off whilst working on the seam I glued three discs of sprue in their place.

The wing roots were treated to some Mr. Surfacer and once that's dry I'll hit the whole thing with some primer and see what needs sorted.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

Excellent progress, Alistair, and I like the trousered undercarriage, as well ;)

I reckon you won't have much to sort out after primer, and you'll be on to camo before you know it!

Thanks Mark,

The wing roots are looking good at the moment but paint will tell. It won't need much to sort it.

I couldn't find the wellie boots so stuck an old pair of flares on.

I reckon the wing roots will be fine, maybe just a wipe with Mr Dissolved Putty and a clean up with a cotton bud. (I wish I'd known that technique when I was fettling the wing roots on my Hurricanes!)

The flares must belong to a matelot! But wellies would have been hilarious :D

Incredibly - a "wow!" moment, a bit like having a revelation, if you'll pardon the expression. In fact, in need to get some ordinary Mr Thinner and save the levelling version!!!

Cheers,

Mark
