Starting silicone mould making, which stuff ?

Pig of the Week

Recommended Posts

I'm wanting to copy some brick sections and building details to make 1/35 (and later some1/16) scale walls and structures..

Which is the most suitable silicone rubber 'kit' to do this ?

I'd be copying from plaster and/or plastic originals that I've made or kitbashed.

There's a few different types of silicones and activators on ebay for instance, and hoping for guidance....

( I'd be casting into the final moulds with some kind of plaster most likely )

A. their stuff is cheaper direct. Its dearer on ebay to cover ebay fees

b. Generally, their staff are helpful, they know their moulding. At the mo they have odd staff in and I'm not sure about them

c. I use resin from MBF.  If you want to use a plaster, use Keramin. Its a plaster with ceramic powder in it. I use that for Linka building pieces and chess pieces. The ceramic powder makes the cast pieces a lot stronger

Thanks again, I'll check that out too..

I already got some crystacel r "posh" plaster for an "individual bricks" mould, that's meant to be harder and better detailed than ordinary p.o.p

I'm basically wanting make brick wall sections for wrecked / ruined houses etc, obviously better stronger than not, but I won't need it to be handleable to the degree of a chess piece.

All brilliant intel there, it's much appreciated .
