Ok, got the Nav lights painted this evening, did a couple of touch-ups, and now the first gloss coat is on...

I'll let that dry (and touch-up the paint a bit more, that I noticed *after* varnishing it!). Then it's on to the decals. I have two sets, the kit one and the aftermarket, and I'm using both of them. So that's twice the chance for them to go wrong (decals have made me cynical!).

Thanks!

Have slowly been working through the decals. It's being a bit awkward, as I have two sets (kit and aftermarket), and both of them have some slightly unclear placement instructions, one just out of laziness, and one out of busyness!

The kit decals are actually going down well enough, but they're a little bit poor in terms of quality, with some out of register issues etc. The aftermarket decals are better looking, but have a residue on them that I have to clean off, and have thick carrier film and are trying their best to silver a lot! But it'll be grand, I'll get there slowly!

I have one half of the fuselage done, here's the nose...

Will keep on working through them...

  • 3 weeks later...

Well, after a couple of weeks of not getting near the bench at all, I finally got the decals done last night...

Next up is the second gloss coat (hopefully this evening) and then a panel wash. I'm hopeful I'll get this finished in time, I'm off next week so that should help...

Thanks, hope you get to finish yours soon!

It's taken a few hours, but I have the panel wash done, using oils. Some of the panel lines aren't great, but most of them are decent so I'm happy with the result...

Next is the matt coat, hopefully tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest. Once that's dry, the canopy masks come off (which I'm worried about as the individual canopy parts are loose-ish) and then I get to stick on all the numerous bits and pieces I have that are already painted/varnished from the start of the build, back in April!

Well, in the end I got it done quickly, it helped having all those parts already painted and ready to be stuck on.

Firstly, I got the Matt coat done, did some unmasking, and then put on the undercarriage (and man, the main undercarriage is ridiculously complicated!). Here's how it looked...

Then I did the last few bits and pieces, and it's done. It's pretty rough, some of the fit is bad and the decals aren't great, but it turned into a "get it done" build rather than a "do it better" build, so I'm happy with bits of it and I'm happy it's done! Thanks to everyone for their support and advice and thanks to @Brad for hosting!

Here are a few more pics, and I'll put some of these up in the Gallery as well...

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the paint job and panel lines, for once I didn't obliterate the tonal variation in the paint!

The fit and seams etc. are another story, and I decided to stop fighting them and just put up with them! And the decals misbehaved and have a lot of silvering as well, despite the gloss coats and plenty of MicroSol.

Great job,

I had the colour conundrum you have with the pales and overall colours, ended up with a bit of Mr Color as the Mt Paints was not quite right. Looks the part, well done!
