Lex77
Hi, Started the Zvezda C-130H kit a week ago and it is a great kit. Used the Eduard PE set for the interior and will be using one for the exterior aswell. Will be using the Dutch Decal decals to make it a Dutch Hercules from 336 Sqn. The kit; The decals; Cockpit done with some PE; A lot of this won't be seen again; Fuselage closed and wings on for the size (huge!)

Lex77
Hi, Had some time and made some progress. Fuselage is closed, cockpit windows glued and outboard engines glued on. Wing isn't glued on but fits very good! Some nose weight (added a little bit more under the cockpit floor.
Romeo Alpha Yankee
That is a nice start Lex, I always remembered the troop seating being red in RAAF C-130s. Some lovely detail going in there 🏆

Unfortunately not a lot will be seen when this one will be finished.

amos brierley
Nice start Lex. Have you seen April’s Airforce’s Monthly - specifically the piece on Dutch Hercs ? Page 66 has a nice photo of a new addition - microvanes they clean up the boundary layer air as it departs the back end. They look easy to make. Hope this helps. 😉

It is a recent addition and they don't look very hard to make but I think I don't put it on the build as I don't think they will stay on it after it is picked up a couple of times.
Lex77
Hercules is completely closed now and started primering to check the seams so time to look at the right color to use. Got 2 different decal sets and both say a different color so went looking a little bit further I found some more different colors. These 5 are mentioned; I'm thinking about using MRP-38 or MRP-247 at the moment.

Lex77
Most major construction is done only the wing is still loose and primered it to check the seams.
Lex77
Wasn't happy with the colors so started mixing myself. Noticed the nose had a lighter shade but this isn't the right one!
Lex77
Resprayed the fuselage and after that it was time for some masking; And after that the demasking;
TheyJammedKenny!
Very cool! I didn't realize that RNLAF C-130Hs had the rubber protective coating, as on the J models.
Lex77
Still wasn't happy with the color of the nose cone so tried another color which I think looks a lot better.

TheyJammedKenny!
Beautifully done! Will the wing be removable for transport, or do you want to cement it to the fuselage later and clean up the seams?

I will keep it removable, the seam isn't too bad so this will keep it a little bit easier to move.

Lex77
It is a nice kit indeed! Some more progress done on the Hercules. Wing and props aren't glued yet.
TheyJammedKenny!
Wow! Repositioning the props like that must've been a major headache. I never saw ours feathered that way after engine shutdown, but if you have photos of the RNLF Hercs with the props in the fully-feathered position, knock yourself out. Looks good.

Will try to repositioning them but I am afraid they are glued on too good.
