Jabba
This is my belated entry for this GB. It is the Bicentennial version of the Hasegawa TA-4J and will be built OOB. The colour schemes are very simple basically white with all the other colours coming in decal form. There are two options in the kit one from VT-126 and the other from VT-7 with myself preferring the latter, but as the decal sheet has been slightly bent so that it can fit in the box I will see when applying these. Kit box. What's inside. Instruction sheet. Decal options. Slightly bent decal sheet.
modelling minion
Welcome to the party Mark, and with two seater which is very welcome indeed. Considering the amount of anniversary and special schemes carried by the Skyhawk I am surprised that this is the first one in the GB, and a rather nice one it is too. Looking forward to seeing this one come together mate.

Jabba
Finally got some work done on this one. I have built up both cockpits, using the kit decals for the instrument panels (my hand painting is not that good even in this scale) filling in what would be the glass with Krystal Klear. The side panels were painted with the bigger buttons with a small brush and the rest dry brushed. I have fitted the air brakes using a method that someone in this GB has already used. It is not as good as theirs but it will do for me. Finally I have got the wings together. I am also in the process of fitting the cockpits to the fuselage and all else that goes in there. I have forgotten to fit the small "T" piece (throttle I think) in each cockpits, but will do so when they are both fully fitted.
modelling minion
Great to see your TA-4 underway Jabba and what a great start it is too. The cockpits look really good, your detail painting and dry brushing have shown up the details very nicely, and the kit's instrument panel decals have settled down very nicely too. Good job tackling the airbrakes too, they look to be fitting very nicely.
Romeo Alpha Yankee
Nice start, it took me a while to figure it was 1/48, cockpit detail looks great
Jabba
Thank you both kindly. A quick update in that all parts are glued into one fuselage half. For some strange reason I could not find the exhaust that fits at the top of the fuselage that was meant for this kit, it was missing on the sprue and not in any bags that I kept. anyhow I did find a different one that the instructions said not to fit, but as it was the only thing available I fitted it and who follows instructions anyway.
modelling minion
That is quick work Jabba, and looks very good too. Don't worry about using the "wrong" vent for the top of the fuselage, my kit has two versions in it and I am blowed if I can find any difference between them. Thanks, it is nice when a kit almost falls together rather than fighting you like the last few that I have built. Anyhow I have now got the fuselage together and just a few more bits to add before this part is completed. I have done a trial fit of the wings and all seems well with that.
helios16v
Damnit Jabba, you making me itch to drag mine out...though mine will be more of a fight I'm sure (Classic Airframes).
modelling minion
Very neat job on the fuselage Jabba, you have got all the various bits for it to go together very nicely. The wing joint is a pretty trouble free experience too, it is nice when kits don't fight you all the way for a change. 24 minutes ago, helios16v said: Damnit Jabba, you making me itch to drag mine out Do it Chris, you know you want to.😉

Jabba
The wings are now joined to the fuselage. I have filled and sanded down the fuselage before fitting it to the wings, but still have a little work to do around the intakes.
modelling minion
That is looking very nice indeed. The wings are faired in really well. You have sorted the intakes very well too, these are not a good fit as a few of us are finding out.
Jabba
Almost there so that this can be painted, a few bits and bobs to be fitted and I think I will be there. The wing pylons although fitted are not glued at the moment, I am not sure about the outer ones the inner ones will have fuel tanks. I had to drill the holes for all the pylons and went a bit too far on the R/H outer one as you can see a blob of filler in the slat housing area. I am also not sure whether to fit the refueling probe at this moment, for fear of knocking it off.
modelling minion
Really nice Jabba, you are doing a really good job on this one mate. As you say, very close indeed to getting some paint on her. Speaking off which, will you be using a rattle can for the white? Can be a lot easier than either a brush or an airbrush.

Jabba
Primer applied and some lines picked out with a grey. I do not know how this will work as I do not do this sort of thing that often.
modelling minion
That is looking great Jabba. The primer shows what a good job you have done on the assembly and I think that the pre-shading should work very well.
Jabba
Thanks Craig. Now with a couple of coats of Appliance White. Will now have do some Red painting before applying some decals.
modelling minion
The other good thing about Halford's Appliance White is that it gives a really nice glossy surface ready for the decals and yours looks really good Jabba.
