349 (Belgian) Squadron - Spitfire Vs

Hi all,

 

Might there be any 349 Squadron obsessives here?  I'm looking for information and/or photos of their Mk.Vbs, especially the first batch:

 

349 received Mk.Vs from 130 Squadron in July 1943 (with a few trickling in subsequently).  These were converted to LF.V in September.

 

In October a new group of Spitfires came on hand, mostly ex- 308 Squadron, but it appears that a few had already arrived from other sources.  (These were already in "LF/LR" state- able to use the jettison tank, and with cropped-blower engines.)

 

This latter batch was flown into 1944, but the prior batch were (largely) turned in for further modification- I believe to get the mods to allow use of the slipper tank.

 

The ORB has no "Record" of daily operations (or rather, training flights) for the period that the first batch were on hand, so I'm trying to add whatever detail I can gather.  I know that the current 349 Squadron has an active Facebook page and website, but I haven't approached them yet.

There is not a lot of information about the 349 Sq's Spitfire Vb aviable 

I have seen a photobook full of pictures but it was in a glazed case in the Officer's mess.

Perhaps you can ask the relationship officier to have copy of them?????
