Since this model requires some skill for rigging, it is the perfect challenge for me. I did already the R.A.F. B.E.2c in 1/48 some time ago. Anyway, I am looking forward what this build will offer to me. In any case, I like this challenge in rigging. The DH 2 from WNW is ahead (from Roden already done) and also the Bristol Fighter. dov Posted April 10, 2021 Author Share Posted April 10, 2021 Hallo After drilling, cutting and test fitting, I sprayed all parts, except flying surfaces and wheels. I also prepared all rigging holes as well all preparations for control wires too. Including the elevator. With the link from https://thevintageaviator.co.nz/image/tid/206 I got all information needed. So I used oil to make the wood realistic. I just differed the shades in wood more, to see more detail. Here, however, these components are shown in such a simplified way that no distinctions can be seen. Some nodes of the framework allow two positions to be glued. No hint. Even at the critical node of the cockpit, where the central wing strut is attached, there is no special reference or detail. But what do I say, hardly any of our well-known companies actually have the ability to create useful building instructions. What am I complaining about, it's always the same. dov Posted April 13, 2021 Author Share Posted April 13, 2021 Hallo Again some steps farther. The fuselage halfs are glued and filled and sanded. The grey areas are sprayed again. The fuselage PC 10 color will be next. A lot of detail work is on. Each bracket has to be sort out and masked and sprayed. Each time I forget some, and so it takes some time. dov Posted April 15, 2021 Author Share Posted April 15, 2021 Now the wings I sprayed this afternoon. With self made masks for roundels. All roundels masks twice, to get a full disc to cover it at the end. The full disc is necessary, to make a correct placement. Otherwise, with a square without round disc, the mask gets deformed. There are an infinite number of small details waiting, almost all of which cannot be found in the instructions. On the model, some as a kit part, some as detail in the surface integrated, but also many details are omitted. At the same time, the modeler should know what he is really doing. The aircraft from that time are really funny. In this case, imagine the hull like a boat. A tarpaulin is fastened over it so that it is windproof. That's the fuselage of this aircraft. With many other British designs as well, only a challenge for the realistic model. The Aldis sight, the actuator for the Ailerons at the bottom of the fuselage is such a thing. In any case, this type is full of small details. The controls and the bracing are still the next challenge. All holes are already predrilled. dov Posted April 20, 2021 Author Share Posted April 20, 2021 Hallo To continue: The eyelets in formation of 4 in line and square at the wing root The additional eyelet at the center wing top, because the front X is a double wire All other eyelets installed Additional steering bar for the tail skid Well, worst of all: The center wing to install first, is impossible. You MUST take the complete top wing at once. The struts and the outer wing interfere. Only the fixed outer wing allows to glue the strut on top! This makes rigging more complicated as it is anyway. dov Posted April 22, 2021 Author Share Posted April 22, 2021 Now this was the hardest day! 8 wires done! Why? The rigging on the 4 eyelets in line at the fuselage / wing area. Here you have the choice to use the eye up or eye in flight direction. Each choice causes a trouble. Collision! So to turn them 45° is not a much better choice. Anyway it took me the whole day. After I got ma vaccine in the morning, I was in high spirits despite the matter of rigging ached. The trouble is caused simple by the impossibility to attach top outer wings later!
