Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4, 1435 Flight RAF, RAF Mt. Pleasant (Falklands), 1:72 HASEGAWA (+Falklands Phantom FGR.2 & Tornado F.3)

Recommended Posts

Here is my 1:72 Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4, ZJ949 "H", No. 1435 Flight Royal Air Force, RAF Mount Pleasant, Falkland Islands, 2015. Hasegawa kit, which is a bit disappointing for the "best 1:72 Typhoon kit on the market" - yes, it's nice molded and quite accurate, but have some annoying fit issues and only "in-flight" configuration of engine nozzles. Nothing that you expect from 2012 Hasegawa kit priced about 30 GBP.

Small Eduard brass for the cockpit, Reskit exhaust nozzles and Pavla MB Mk.16A ejection seat have been added. Painted mostly with Gunze C334 "Barley Grey". Decals are mix of Hasegawa, Revell and self-printed (1435 Flight emblems).

It's the third (and probably the last) model in my little project "Falklands Guardians", which was to include all 3 types of fighters used by the RAF on Falkland Islands after 1982.

So here they are together: Phantom FGR.2 of 23 Squadron, RAF Stanley 1983 (Fujimi), Tornado F.3 of 1435 Flight, RAF Mt. Pleasant 1999 (Revell ex-Italeri) and Typhoon FGR.4 of 1435 Flight, RAF Mt. Pleasant 2015 (Hasegawa):

WOW. :analintruder:

What a great collection you've got there alex_stela @alex_stela

I've planned my own collection of the same aircrafts but in 1/48.

You wouldn't happen to know if there are any Falklands Typhoon decals avaliable in 1/48?

Despite the fit issues,  the Typhoon came out looking wonderful. It's a shame about the fit issues though. I had hoped the kit would be one of Hasegawa's great ones.

There should be no problem with 1/48 decals for 23 Squadron Phantom and 1435 Flight Phantom or Typhoon, as you can find them in Xtradecal offer. But for Tornado F.3 it would be harder - however I found quite old Czech "4+" publication with 1435 Flight decals. I don't know if it's still available.

I had the same problem in 1/72, that's why I had to self-print some decals for Tonka and EF.

Best regards, Alex

They all look fabulous,.... you`ll have to do a 1453 Flt Harrier GR.3 with Sidewinders fitted to finish off the `Down South Air Defence' collection!

Outstanding work, on all three! Beautiful colours all of them, looking just right. And those jet pipes and rear fuselage metal areas on the Typhoon look real. Brilliant. You do need a Harrier though!
