Best Liquid Mask?

Just wondered what people think is the best liquid mask on the market at the moment please. I have Humbrol Maskol and Microscale Micro Mask but not entirely happy with either of them so wondered if the Mr Hobby alternatives would be better? They seem to do two versions, Sol Neo and Sol R but it doesn't say what the difference is between them so a wee bit unsure about buying at the moment. Alternatively there might be others that are better alternatives such as the ones aimed more at artists which I've seen?

Regards

Colin.

I've been using the Mr. Hobby Masking Sol R and been happy with it.

But just for grins, I recently bought a bottle of the Abteilung 502 Liquid Mask.  Haven't used it yet though.

Sol Neo is ammonia base latex, Sol R is water based.

Sol Neo may react with certain finishes - definitely does with Future. I use Sol R, but not sure if Sol Neo has any particular advantages for some applications.

I use Copydex.  Similar properties to Maskol, but no amonia.

And not a specialist model product - so more generally available, and much cheaper. .

I too use copydex .Cheap , works well , no wastage as i use a tube . easy to get .

Sol R is supposedly cut-able

Yes it is - with care, you need a fresh blade to ensure a complete cut to ensure you don't pull away a corner. I think the trick with sol-r is getting the thickness right. It's possible to spread it very thinly which then makes it hard to lift after painting. I usually include a bit of tape under the mask sticking up so i can use it to lift a part of the mask to aid removal

An interesting thread. My interest is to use as an alternative to “salt technique”. I therefore need to apply over a metallic base and then be able to easily peel off after the top coat is applied. I use enamels (Humbrol and Colourcoats). I’d welcome any more thoughts :). Thanks in advance.
