sanfrandragon
Hi, I’m not sure this is the right place, but does anyone know anything about Spada Decals? I have a WNW Sopwith Camel to build and they used to have some lovely colourful aftermarket decals, but the reviews online are dated 2008 and the website seems to no longer exist. Many thanks! thorfinn
I got my several sheets from Mike Taylor (Misterkit/US), who was SPADA's US distributor for a time, and whose site misterkit.com is still active. An old post by Mike on the Aerodrome forum (ca. 2011) related that he 'inherited' the digital files for the decal sets after SPADA's owner retired from the business...but I have no idea whether anything ever developed from that. It might be worth exploring the site (or contacting him directly) to see what might be available. [Addendum: after a quick glance, it appears this is the Italian company's site, so any connection to Mr. Taylor might be non-existant. Sorry.] Not much help, but it might give you a few more clues to aid your search. Sad to hear they're gone...they were an excellent product. Cheers
JackG
They may have had some great looking subjects and well researched, but according to this thread, some not too positive experiences with Spada decal products from a technical aspect: https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=7641.0 I thought a possible source would be FlightDecs, but apparently they too shut down a couple years ago. https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/hyperscale/is-flightdecs-decals-still-around-t519172.html regards, Jack
sanfrandragon
Thanks for your help. I got as far you did, but sent an email as suggested. Let’s see what happens. Quality looks to be an issue but the subjects are so unique they’re worth the risk. It would be a shame if they’ve disappeared for ever. Even I would be tempted to take ownership and find a third party printer!
sanfrandragon
Just to report back I didn’t receive a response to my email to Mike, which was no great surprise as it was from a message board from a long time ago. Can anyone recommend decals for a 1/32 WNW camel that are a bit ‘different’?

And these: https://www.pheondecals.com/32072--sopwith-camel-aces-rfc--raf-vol-1.html Not particularly odd, but good quality. Paul.
JackG
Yeah, not much to chose from a listing found on Scalemates: https://www.scalemates.com/search.php?fkSECTION[]=All&q=sopwith+camel+decals&fkSCALENORMALISED[]="1:00032" If you can find the Academy kit no. 12122, it has the Beardmore markings, and they don't get more colourful than that: regards, Jack
SleeperService
Just seen this. A guy in our club makes paint stencils. He can take a sheet in say 72nd scale it up to 48th and do magic. They're tacky plastic and work best with an airbrush but you could use a stipple brush like in olden days If you can't find anybody local I'll put you in touch if you send me a PM.
