Westland Wasp rotor blades

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I have the Airfix Magazine September 1966 issue with the Westland Wasp conversion article. In the plans, it shows the main rotor blades with a white leading edge. Would this have been painted or was it weathering? I also have the Warpaint publication for the Wasp and there seem to be no white leading adges on the rotor blades.

Any idea’s?

regards Toby

The white leading edge can be hard to see in pictures and was often not present in pictures that are clear enough to be sure about it.  However, it is there in some photographs.

The drawing is labelled very specifically, "2 inch wide white leading edge narrows to 1 inch wide at half span".  I'd do it.

I don't still have possession of my 66 mag and I cant remember the white leading edge markings but if Alan Hall and whoever drew the plans back then said white edges I would be shocked if they were not really there.

Not a man for missing important stuff, our Alan.

Wasnt that the one with a balsa stub wing rear undercart attachment?

It gave me the drive to do mine again in later years.
