Hi all !

Thanks very much for my acceptance in this group build .:D

As discussed with modelling minion , I'll start posting my WIP today but I actually started my build a few months ago.

So , don't think I'm a fast builder since I'm a very slow builder indeed .

The model :

As usual for most of our kits , let's start with the bang seat .

My A-4F his equipped with an Escapac IC-3 ( black in this case ) and I will represent it with it's security on ( pilots call it the headknocker !!!! )  in other words with it's headknocker out !

Details of the seat :

The headknocker :

Since I'm a DIY adept and , that I'm quite found of some scratch building , I started from the Hasegawa seat .

Some more details of the top part of the seat with the security stuff hidden behind the head knocker .

Thank's for passing by .

That is some fantastic work on the seat, you have really brought it to life with all the extra details you have added. If I am not mistaken is this in 1/72 scale? If so that makes it even more special.

Very much looking forward to your next update.

I don’t know, the box looks like the 1/72 kit, but that seat isn’t remotely like Hasegawa’s 1/72 seat, moulded into the rear bulkhead.

so it must be after market or a larger scale.

Edit:  just noticed the thread heading, it’s 1/48

Hi all !

Step 2 , the office !

OOPS !

Not this one ... this one :

A reference picture : this area is actually black , not gray as specified by Hasegawa .

Engraving is superb , let's go !!!

... I decided to do it the old way : black primer, then FS36231 gray ( airbrushed ) . For walls :  some touches of dark gray (handles, miscellaneous stuff) and gun metal for the air conditioning nozzles.  Gloss varnish.  Lighter fluid + gris de payne grey oil wash . matt varnish.

A last one with the dashboard, which was also painted in FS36231, gloss varnished,  then was dressed up  with the pretty Hasegawa decal,  "microsol-tamed" :deadhorse:   in 2/3 days ( 10 applications in some places  !!!).  Matt varnish, shiny varnish on the dials. The Havana "arches" are padded leather protections for the rider's thighbones. Some pics show them black, gray, red or havana, I opted for this last color which brings a nice lighting in this area.

That's it for today .

See you soon and :thanks: for visiting my office !!!!

Very nice job on your office.

The IP looks really good, getting the decal to bed down may have taken a while but it certainly was worth it. Very nice job on the painting the cockpit tub and picking out the details.

Thanks guys .

The IP and generally speaking , the whole cockpit of the kit are beautifully moulded . In my opinion no need for aftermarket in that area .

On the other hand , the seat is not at the same standard as you saw on my previous posting .

To be honest , my next two Hasegawa A-4 will get aftermarket seats to save time .

I'm trying to copy some of your techniques with the seats. Can you tell me what your seat belts are made of? And are you using lead wire for the thicker lines?

Hello , yes : lead wire of 2 different diameters .

For the seat belts I use the metallic overcapping capsules you find on bottles of wine .

Good evening everyone .

The office being finished, it was a question of painting the seat.

Black primer

PA / Vallejo acrylics.

MIG satin varnish

Decals

MIG satin varnish

Black wash  : oil paint +Zippo fluid (it is well worth the Sennelier and is a bit cheaper).

White titanium wash   oil paint + zippo fluid  for the 6 rivets of the headrest which are shiny aluminum in real life.

Note: the stencils and placards come from the Airscale ref AS48 DAN . They are great, except the Douglas logo which on my copy (printing error) did not have the gray diamond background ... it's painting on the seat was a hassle in itself, unable that I am to do anything free hand ... well those diamonds are not perfect , but they do the job .

I sent an email to Peter at Airscale about the problem , who was already aware of it .  Peter sent me a  complimentary copy as soon as he received the corrected ones from is printer ( too late for this seat , but I have several other scooters in my stash !!! ).

Top service for a top decal provider and trully top of the tops modeller . Thanks again Peter and congrats again for your grand daughter !

Our finished Escapac:

The same one in it's natural environment .

See you soon and thanks again for visiting this topic .

I'll continue to catch a glance to the others topics . See you on yours !

Your seat and cockpit look fantastic, extremely well detailed and very realistic.

Good service from Airscale with the decals, it is always nice to hear of good customer service as we only usually get to hear when things go wrong.

The closing of the fuse is approaching very fast : the pit, the ballast (10g + milliput), the first stage of the engine and the  " torch" are in place !!!

20111911215617732317134783.jpg

The hump has been worked up a bit: Tamiya putty " tamed " with the Mig masking  tape , and smoothed within 10 minutes after application with a Q-tip and nail polish remover. Re-engraving + refining of air inlets.

Too bad I hadn't discovered this GB earlier ... since I modified the slat area ... the hard and tricky way ... not perfect but done .

My next Skyhawk will benefit from the Minion ( and others ) way . Thanks for the tip guys !

That is really good, your version of how to deal with the step in the slats has worked just as well as the one used by me.

Looks like you will have the fuselage closed up very soon.

All excellent stuff. 👍

Yes ... but no ... as Vicky Pollard would have said ... 😁

This method inducts the loss of the engraving and a lot of sanding , not to mention the need for putty.

Your way to play the trick is far clever and efficient !!!
