The only solution I've found, and not a very easy one, is to seal the ink with acrylic varnish, float it off and turn it over. Let it dry, paint the portion you want white with gloss white enamel paint. Let it dry, float it off and turn it over again to get some adhesive on and apply it. As I said - not easy! Works OK for small badges and nose art etc. If I need a few decals I print them at the top of the A4 sheet and simply cut off the portion I need (an inch say). The remainder of the decal sheet can be used again, and again... Regards, Hmmm didn't think cutting the sheet down would work, I'll try it on some blank paper, see if my printer will cope with that
Adam Poultney Posted April 8, 2021 Author Posted April 8, 2021 (edited) With a little exhaust staining and a wash I'm calling this done. I don't imagine XA895 got all that dirty, so I've not done this quite as grubby as I've seen in pictures of other B1s and B1as. Very pleased with the result. Now what do I do next... build another? Maybe. I've got three more of this kit in the stash, I would like to try a regular B1 with the small tailcone, probably painted white. I did a silver straight wing early B1 (first five production aircraft and prototypes only! Why do so many think this was the standard for B1s?) in the summer, it was a bit rushed as I just wanted to build a Vulcan B1, I might revisit that model. Strip it of paint, fix the surface of the wings which are a complete mess of scratches and imperfections and just do an altogether better job of that one. This one that I've just finished is much better. Also got a 1/48 Javelin I'd like to build, or a 1/72 Whitley. Perhaps a Tu144 I just added to the stash. More photos will be put on an RFI thread soon Edited April 8, 2021 by Adam Poultney 2
