onethritysecond
Building an early 60s mini and wondering if anybody has found a near equivalent for the green engine paint used on small BMC cars at that time? Preferably Humbrol as I am more like to have that in my stash. Looking on the internet you realise that there seems to be almost as many shades used as there are cars out there, most of which look wrong to me anyway! I keep picking up a tin and thinking that is nearly it but then look at another one and think that is nearer. Internet sources say it should be BS381c223 middle bronze green but I think (from memory, been a long time since I fiddled with an A series engine) it looks more like BS381c222 light bornze green but really I am most interested in what looks correct at scale, rather than is correct - colours can look very different on small surfaces than when on big ones. cheers Chris

Appreciate not easy to tell from that photo! Chris
Pig of the Week
Having fiddled with A series engines and the like a fair bit, I'd agree no. 80 looks a decent match to me... Bear in mind too, that with normal usage, running heat, oil, etc etc, few engines are going to retain their factory fresh hue for long !
Admiral Puff
I was going to suggest that used Castrol 20W/40 is probably close ...
