zebra
I proposed something along these lines last year, didn't get a lot of support then but I still think it's a good idea so giving it another go. This GB would be focused on emergencies and the people and equipment that deal with them. Civil or military. So the things that would be in scope would include (but not limited to, if others have suggestions for things that would fit): Police, fire, ambulance, and other medical services - as this is civil or military it would include military police, ambulance ships, combat medics etc as well as the obvious civilian emergency services. Rescue services - eg mountain rescue, lifeboats, coastguard. I think things like tow trucks, recovery vehicles etc would fit the bill too. The AA did call themselves the fourth emergency service after all. Search and rescue - as this is civil or military it would include combat SAR and things like the Spitfires, Defiants, Walruses, Lancasters, B-17s and (as I just learned) P-47s used for ASR in WWII Disaster relief/disaster management/humanitarian - ie things used to respond to humanitarian crises, natural disasters etc Peacekeeping Anything used for these purposes fits the bill - whether on land, sea, air or (I suppose, if there's something that fits the bill) space. Also anything else that you wouldn't normally think of as fitting the bill but was used in an emergency would fit the bill. Things like the Carpathia picking up survivors from the Titanic. There would probably be plenty of other things that would work as well. It can be fictional too so Thunderbirds are go for the Emergency! GB. Some of the brilliant suggestions people have come up with so far include: - warbirds converted to firebombers (or indeed any firebombers, whether purpose-built or converted from something else) - the Airfix RNLI lifboat, Airfix RAF Emergency Set, etc (didn't they also do an RAF Rescue Launch?) - various different fire engines - a Model T ambulance - military ambulances - towing vehicles - various SAR and rescue helicopters - an ocean liner that picked up survivors from a disaster - an ASR Spitfire and P-47 - a NASA M113 firefighting vehicle and plenty more. So it's fairly broad and there's probably something for just about everyone. What do people think? Here's the sign-up list so far: 1. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Id like to join in but want to do a NASA M113 firefighting vehicle. Would that be acceptable ? https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/shuttlemissions/sts134/multimedia/gallery/2011-03-30-3.html

It’s a firefighting vehicle so it absolutely fits the bill. Plus it’s the kind of left field subject that I would really love to see.
TonyOD
Absolutely sign me up for this. Funnily enough I was thinking yesterday that it would be an interesting specialist subject to model aircraft and vehicles that save or sustain life (SAR, ambulances etc.) rather than take it (armed war machines). There must be plenty scope. I'd try and find a mountain rescue themed subject.
zebra
I'd better start a list. And here's a bit more inspiration:

Tim R-T-C
I'd be interested, lots potential. I don't normally make 'action' dioramas, but I made this emergency scene last year And as for Peacekeepers, this little Bosnian war vignette too.
Ted
I'd join with a 1/35 military ambulance. A jeep, or the old Dodge, or maybe the Airfix Austin K2 will be available by the time the GB starts.

Just don't build it in the setting in the photo - putting it in front of a Priory sign is in really poor taste! Now that particular Priory is a psychiatric hospital (and my Dad worked there, briefly, in the 60s - there were still patients there with shellshock from the First World War) but the name is more commonly associated with rehab clinics, and it can't be a coincidence that they've taken the photo in a way that makes it look like they're delivering booze to a rehab clinic. Can't blame them for banning the advert!

Yes they used older fighter’s to search for Bomber crews ditching in the channel/north sea. They carried dinghy packs in place of drop tanks, and also carried a rack with smoke flares under the fuselage. They would drop the dinghy if needed and the circle until a boat or flying boat could arrive. If they had to depart or were attacked they could drop a flare and either fight or RTB. Here is a good source of photo’s and brief description. http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/5th-emergency-resue-squadron/ The fourth photo shows the dinghy packs and flares well. Similar to the ASR Defiants and Spitfires. It's a perfect fit for this GB and I'd love to see it built. This is a great example of the kind of thing I have in mind for the GB. I think I'll add it to the first post in the thread - maybe some examples will inspire people to sign up.

Do you know of any aftermarket dinghy packs in 1/48 or a good site for pics if I want to scratch build some?

bianfuxia
I'm sure I can rustle up something for this GB. At the very least, I doubt I will have build this by then, so it'll be a good motivation to try: Been sitting in my stash for years.
