John Masters
I gave some of the parts a spritz of aluminum, put the wings together, and inserted the cockpit comment into one half of the fuselage... That was yesterday. This morning I closed up the fuselage. Tight as a drum. --John

John Masters
I have attached the fuselage to the wing; attached the stabilizers; the two little air scoops; the underwing control horn thingys...pretty much without a hitch. I needed to sand a bit to get the wing on and used super thin glue in the joints once it was snug. --John

Shalako
Back in the 1990s, when the SAAF retired their fleet of Harvards (and it was quite a large fleet!), I was tempted to take a loan and buy one BUT, just to buy it isn't enough is it? You also need to have the financial resources to support it, on the long term!!! BTW, nice work so far mate!! Keep it up! Cheers, Bill

True...I am already thinking of how to make it right. Some of the images I have seen show wear on the orange on the underside of the cowling. I think I will try to replicate that.

IIRC others have used a yellow undercoat and sprayed fine coats of day-glo (using less coats where it's faded). I've never tried it myself though! I have some good white primer so I may try that. The trick is to mix the right combo of day-glo orange with red, or else it is too orange. The white undercoat lightens it too. I'm not there yet but I'm thinking...😉

John Masters
With the canopy masked and attached and the cowling/motor assembly done, I think I might be ready for some primer... -John

John Masters
I have given the areas that will be day-glo some white primer. My intention is to paint these areas first, then mask for the NMF and the dark grey (tops of the wings). --John
John Masters
A busy night of masking on the bench...The first round of masks for the Harvard...These will be for the day-glo colour. After that, I will mask the wing areas and the day-glo areas for the Dark Grey. Then, I get to mask it all again for the NMF. Phew! Boatloads of tape... --John
John Masters
OK...ratio... 1:3:2 Gives me this... ...which I am happy with. It'll be a tad lighter over the white. That's ok too. I should strike while the iron is hot... I will really let that dry for a solid 24 hours before any tape removal and re-masking... --John

Mask part 2--anti-glare and Dark Grey panels... The black anti-glare goes first... Then that is covered up and the Dark Grey goes on. I used rattle can for both of these as I was painting late at night and din't want to disturb the neighbours. When dry, I removed the masks and this is where I am at. Now I need to mask all the painted areas and get ready for the NMF... --John

Masked for the NMF... Aluminum on... And, finally, unmasked for the big reveal! There are a couple of spots that need some touch-ups but otherwise it's a clean paint job. I also need to remask a bit and paint the black walkways on the wings. I'll use a hairy brush for those. --John
