VT Red Sox Fan Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 (edited) CedB, coming along nicely--believe @bbudde is correct about the Mickey radome--my understanding is that this early bomb aiming radar was used with limited success in bad weather by USAAF crews. Some google search links from previous research are listed below. Maybe this part is for neither of the schemes in this boxing so use the turret? Lovely fettling by the way. 🙌 Johnny Yep, that's it Johnny No ball turrets? The wood grain you achieved is just right for 1:72, kudos on that. I've learnt things here and been impressed by other things so a result in my book. What's better than a B-17? Two B-17's! I love them. I shall pop by again. Thanks Pete 15 hours ago, bbudde said: As above Ced this looks like mickey radome. Long ago Paragon did resin conversion in different scales for the older kits. I also didn't know that they did a pathfinder version with the kitts. Btw nice work on the interieur. hendie Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 I think when they mention "paint internals" they don't mean on the paper Ced. you did wear a mask though, didn't you? Got to follow those instructions to the letter 10

CedB Posted April 21, 2021 Author Posted April 21, 2021 More wood: And brass for the cartridge shells. What do you mean you can't see it? Took me ages… Brass on the tail gun cartridges too, and some leather on the saddle: Gunmetal. Lots of it: All AK paste, of course. If you want an even finish you can thin this with white spirit and get a nice paint-like consistency: …but hey, does it cover! Around the windows. They 'click' nicely into place so thinned Canopy glue was wicked into the gaps: Waist guns assembled. I decided that the belts probably wouldn't bend much so I stuck those in first: I put a dob of Gator's Grip on the mount (dries clear - they're in the window), positioned the gun in the hole and wiggled it until it met the belt, then applied a dot of Contacta to, hopefully, glue the belt to the gun: Ish. Of course the results will be there for all to see, as will the detailing on the radio room: Ball turrets next. With that and all the mention of wood, I'm surprised my inner Finbarr is behaving itself. I'm obviously not feeling myself lately. Must get a grip. Fnaar, snurf, yurkk yurkk! 19 9

RichieW Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 You've really mastered painting wood effects Ced. I love the B17, my Dad lived near a USAF airbase in WW2 and saw many of them limping home shot to pieces. He idolised the American pilots, mostly because they sometimes gave him chocolate when he followed them around. 3 1
philp Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 (edited) How did I miss a Ced build x2? Ok, off to catch up. And that is accomplished. They are coming along nicely Ced but don't forget what Tom said, black rubber matting on the walkways. You can see it in some of the pics of the bombers. I have been lucky enough to fly on two different Forts. Shot video the first time. link to the album. https://photos.app.goo.gl/dUyQEvKYKUEWZDqy6 and a link to the album for the 2nd one (Madras Maiden) with a couple of short videos. https://photos.app.goo.gl/82mV8oDa4juYbNe48 These are restorations so not accurate for a WWII build but one of my kits (I have several) will be Aluminum Overcast as when I flew in her.
