A Group of Gals - Two Revell B-17Gs and a Hasey Friend

Thanks chaps - kind of you all :)

There has been wine, no doubt.

Plus fizzy and Krispy Kremes, with candles.

AND the girls thought of something to buy me - usually hard.

A reflector telescope.

Now I'll be able to see all those things in the sky I've been looking out for…

I guess its a belated Happy Bday from me then Ced, I like the idea of a reflector telescope, we watched the Lunar eclipse from my brothers place in Wellington on Wednesday night, really cool but a decent telescope would have upped the cool factor a lot.

Roadies are the large, usually hairy gentlemen wearing shorts and big boots who put a band’s stage and equipment up.

Further clues to help identify them are a small mag lite in one hand, and grunting “1 - 2” into a Mike.

Oh, and they kick you on the shoulder and snarl “git orff  my stage” when you try and grab a bit of Pete Townshend’s guitar after he’s smashed it, I thought as he’d smashed it he wouldn’t want the bits, not that any roadie for the Who would do that, would they?

(oh yes he did!)

I’d guess Roasties, because Ced couldn’t have sat down for a meal with any roadies, there’s no concerts happening yet.

Thanks Gents! :)

Roasties! Damned autocorrect. Roast potatoes, crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle, with lots of gravy... can’t wait.

As stovies and bridies are allegedly Scottish 'food types' I wondered if they were Batheaston-ish southron alternatives that we ordinary diners never get to sample.

I think I am glad we got that sorted, if feeling slightly let down by the deflation of anticipatory nerve fibres...

Reflectorey telescope?

Colour me green.

Not in a @Martian -sh manner. (I simply cannot handle the scales any more)

You be making me hungry - what was the name of the pub around the corner from your place?

If you have any questions about the scope, let me know. That's my other hobby - I just finished building an ultralight Dobsonian reflector with a 16 inch main mirror. My undergrad degree is in Optics so I can bluff my way through such discussions.    :)

Cheers,

Bill

Ced, isn't that just a posh name for a magnifying mirror?

Errr…um… Don't know. It's like this:

51212310536_01e3e341cf_c.jpg

Nice 'starter' version according to Amazon. That's me then.

I had problems after putting it together - black hole in the eyepiece - until I realised that the big rotary thingie (technical term) on the sharp end isn't supposed to be turned otherwise the prisms get out of line. The bit with the eyepieces rotates inside it.

I've got it now and impressed the girls by looking at the top of the fence post at the end of the garden.

One of them commented "Aren't you supposed to use it for things that are further away?"

Honestly.

Sometimes I think they were adopted, but we tried it once and it didn't work - they sent them back.

The beef fillet was delicious and tender, but NOT pink. Hmmm. I'm wondering if M&S have gone all Halal on us.

The roasties (check spelling) were delicious, as always.

Trouble is, after the 'roasties incident of 2018' where there was an argument over the last roastie Mrs B now does 'enough for everyone' to avoid conflict.

That means there are always some left over.

Well, that's not allowed is it?

As there is also ample gravy for all (same reason) I have to try to 'finish them off' as I was trained in the post-war 'clear your plate' methodology. Waste not, want not.

Then I can't move for hours…

Cross Keys. My local. Looking forward to getting in there sometime soon.

Thanks for the offer of help on the 'scope too Bill. Appreciated.

Thanks Cookie, Adrian, Craig and Johnny for the birthday greetings.

Yes, there was chocolate too!

Not much will be done again on the Forts.

I have to sort this out:

51211475477_8d736458bd_c.jpg

The bathroom mirror where the corners had gaps.

I'm now driving myself mad trying to decide whether to just try to cut everything to 45º of fiddle with it until it fits.

Of course I've bought a new tool - the yellow thing bottom right.

Strap clamp - great thing, IF I get the angles of the dangles sorted.

  • 2 weeks later...

Looks like a week since my last post, sorry chaps.

I have excuses.

Lots of 'em.

Replies first.

If

If (I can get the angles sorted) indeed Bill :)

This is one of the excuses for lack of progress.

Using my 'angle of the dangle' tool I could see that the corners on some bits weren't 45º.

I drew 45º angles on the offending bits ready to correct the errors and then thought 'hold on a minute, if I cut those bits that will make the frame smaller and the mirror won't fit'.

Lucky escape!

After looking at it, pondering and looking at it again I decided the best thing to do was just fill the gaps.

Pity I didn't think of that before taking it apart :(

Reassembly obviously meant glueing and clamping bits and I only have two big clamps. I resisted buying more (are you proud of me?) so this took days.

It's now back together and filled:

The 'Total Furniture Repair System' is a set of wax crayons and stain pens that will hopefully colour the repairs.

Might come in handy for wood effect too

Other DIY attempts included fitting new ceiling lights in the bathroom (not compatible with new 'chrome look') and back loo (making paint look too yellow).

There back loo one went up a treat but the bathroom one didn't.

'Oh good' I thought when I saw that the new one was bigger than the old and would cover the non-painted bit on the ceiling.

Sadly the cable hole on the old one was in the middle and the new one on the edge.

Result?

New light with a partially unpainted ceiling around it. Rats.

Oooh, not sure Bill. It's this one. If you can't see that link it's a LAKWAR 80mm aperture with triple eyepieces (K9mm: 44x, K17.5mm: 23x, K25mm: 16x with 3x enhance lens)

Certainly has a lens at the front and a prism at the eyepiece end.

I haven't stayed up late enough with a clear sky but I have played with it during the day.

A problem that puzzled me for some time was that I couldn't use my iPhone 12 Pro to take photos. Then I realised that the smart photo software was looking at the dark image through the (one of three) lens I was trying to use and deciding that was useless and switching lenses. Smart, but not very clever…

Using the Coolpix I managed to get these pics of the tree at then end of the garden (about 150' away):

That last shot was in focus honest, but the leaf kept moving.

Hey Ced, a belated happy birthday mate.

The "Gals" look sweet.

As for auto correct, we all know what a pain that can be.

Simon.

Thanks Simon :)

We also had the girls and their partners here for the long weekend and the girls, dog and baby stayed for half-term.

Now gone and Mrs B had left today for a week of baby minding.

Home alone for this week.

Blissful peace and, hopefully, some modelling!

I have been visiting this over the past two weeks:

The masking for the OD is A PAIN!

Bendy demarcation line around the turret:

…and tiny bits around the tailplanes:

51231493243_031d5257fd_z.jpg

One down now and as soon as the mojo allows the other to be done I'll be spraying the rear fuselages.

Finally.

Look a bit dark but it's Olive Yellow, or vice versa.

Nose turret to do and then I can start the NMF.

Wings?

Oh yeah, forgot about those…
