With that done I could assemble and glue the bomb bay, at last:

 

 

I must admit that my mojo's a bit low at the moment - I think it's all the multi-step, fiddly, different coloured things but it won't be long now…

…until I start the cockpit.

 

I will admit now that, as Jim's kit is going to be closed up, I'm only detailing one bomb bay.

Bombs assembled:

 

 

I noticed the gates left on the fins and thought 'Oooh, I could use those to hold the thing while painting'.

Not until after I'd cut one off, obviously.

Then I realised I could stick a stick up the mounting slot (fnaar!) so I cut the others off too.

I also assembled the other racks:

 

 

Note that the parts are the same for both steps - you just stick the racks on opposite sides.

Which way for the frames? Notches on the bottom, 'front' rib going up. HTH

Does mean one has no detail on the outside but hey.

 

Then cleaned everything up ready for painting:

 

 

…and applied some paste to the racks.

I've also used Giorgio's dry-marker test on the bomb seams.

 

Once the racks have had Nulm Oil and the bombs painted they can go in here:

Progressing quite quickly here, Ced

Assembling bombs and/or any other external load is a great test for one's patience, IMO - well done!

In other (thread drift) news....I've now received a parcel from Jim at the 453rd Museum, and so will have to commit some modelling for the first time in a couple or more years.  I've tapped and unwrapped it and ordered some bits and bobs and some paint so it must be going to happen.....

Those wood doors look great against NMF interior--I agree with @giemme on the patience required to arm an aircraft, sometimes it feels like the weapons are a kit in their own right--well done!  Best, Erwin

I like it - I use their stuff on pilots at Stew's recommendation and they're really easy

Bombs to be painted 46 - I have some of that!

It's part of the six pots I bought ages ago and is, er, a little thick:

 

 

Thinned in the top with W&N Flow Improver it went on OK:

 

 

With some Nulm Oil on the other racks I think I'm close to finishing the bomb bays:

Missed a bit, but I've only noticed in it the photo and…

 

 

The rooves are on now.

I made sure the tapered bit was at the back AND that the roof 'clicked in' to the slots before applying TET to the joins.

Future builders note: Stick the control wheel to the column before you stick the columns in.

The wooden floors look better every time I see them, you need some tiny boot prints on them now like Giorgio's " Picchiatello ".

So you have non-wine nights too? We try to have one or two a week but it doesn't always work out, I had three last week but that was because I was taking anti-biotics for an infection.

PS Have you had your 2nd jab yet and if so how did you react? SWMBO had her first a couple of weeks ago and wasn't too good for a while and still has the lump on her arm. She always reacts badly to injections/vaccinations' it's the blue blood don't y'know.

I'm pleased we're able to help Jim. The kindness he showed during our visit and the information he sought out is a great memory eh? Such kindness and enthusiasm deserves support IMHO.

I'm going to try to get to the Airshow at the end of July, if we're allowed.

I know! I guess they squeezed them in where they could…

Yellow is weird I know, but according to the reference shots (scroll to the bottom) that Tom sent me the cushions could also be used as flotation devices. I don't think They'd help much?

Non-wine nights are quite rare for me nowadays - I'm still deciding whether to go 'to the other place' sober, or happy and pickled. I suppose I should add 'drink responsibly' to that but I'm still not sure what that means.

No second jab yet - we're expecting it at the beginning of next month, fingers crossed.

SWMBO has blue blood? Are you sure she's not a Skrull? They can shape shift you know…

This morning I remembered my perdu training - tube glue (Humbrol) is sticky enough to hold things in place and dries slowly enough to allow a little wiggle room.

Ideal for this sort of job:

 

 

When I built the Belle I had problems with these then realised the top of the back strut goes under the bar at the back.

This time I looked closer and noticed that the bottom of the legs are angled so, if you push them into the holes, they sort of line up properly.

I also noticed that the top of the back legs is 'morticed' so they fit inside the frame. I've left it loose so that you can see it in that photo. Just.

 

They're in now:

 

 

 

'On a roll' I decided to glue it all in:

 

 

…and check the seam:

 

 

Acceptable.

How much will be seen after close up?

 

 

 

Not a lot.

I'd better take some close up shots before close up.

Interiors coming on well. I wonder why the pilots’ seat supports needed to be so ‘ industrial ‘, perhaps it was because of the extra weight caused by the flak-jackets, steel helmets and other gubbins they wore.
