JWM
This photo of Romeos Ro 1 left no room for doubts, that there were two additional fuel tanks inside the upper wing, outside the standard one, not reproduced in LF kit. One more thing to correct... Here are some details how the nose looked like when the spinner and fairing was removed. This will need also some scratch work. But I will not change the rudder, I cannot observe that it was lower as suggested in the conversion set description. Regards J-W
Col.
Extra work perhaps J-W but you're making an impressive commitment to your research and efforts getting this correct
JWM
Hi. So I will have to step back with upper wing of Romeo Ro 1. have closed the fuselge and even applied first diluted layer of creamy white (Humbrol purposely bought for this build) Anyway, some shots of inside: I glued also struts to lower wings in Fiat Cr 20 bis, To be continued Regards J-W
JWM
The upper wing on position in Fiat What to say? Simply - It was not easy to assembly this upper wing.... Moreover, one slot was broken during sanding and the piece of it was stolen by a carpet monster. No way to get back... So I had to scratch one slot. I have made marked those additional tanks on upper wing in Romeo: This was done in two steps. First I masked squares with Tamiya tape, put some Tamiya putty to fill up spaces between wing ribs. After few hours I sanded it. Then I used 2 mm wide Tamiya tape to mask reinforcements. In gaps between tapes again I use putty , then sanden. After removing of all tapes the result is above. I scratched also tailplane To be continued Regards J-W
Col.
I can't begin to imagine how much 'entertainment' juggling all those struts for the Fiat must have provided you
JWM
Hi Fiat CR -20 is glued together, rigged and even painted. The control cables in tail area will be added after decals. I have measured proportions of Ro-1 tailplane versus other Fokkers CV and it looks that total chord of tailplane is about 10% longer in Ro-1 then in typical CV, I Think that 10% is significant, so beyond uncertainties due to parallax, distortions etc. I jave used only in flight photos because they are always done with some kind of long focus distance lenses in which the distortion is relatively small. I painted a thin leyer of matt white (Humbrol 34) to uniform the background. Then it will be covered with next layer of cream (Humbrol 41), This wil save the thickness of paints. If the creamy white and red strips are equal they should be 8 mm wide. On the So.3 machine seen in below photo there are no equal, moreover there is a single red belt on each side of tailplane. But no national insignia on top wing. There is also photo of So.6 in the Fokker CV monograph book, she has also the stripes on tailplane and narrowed red then creamy belts on wing. I have to think twice (and search which numbers I have in drawer on desired size) to do a final choice of machine I will model. All are from Somalia squadron and one more difference can be observed - there is a big windcreen of observer, much bigger than in regular CV and not provided by LF . JWM
An upper wing on position stablized by a lot of tape And u/c struts are also there. After hours and removing of tapes: Gets the shape, I think... The red paint is still not perfectly dry, I have to pause for a day or two, I think Regards J-W

Some small progress with Romeo - I 've painted black on all struts And I did spoke wheels using the kit PE parts, stretched sprue as axes and rubber o-rings as tires With this magnification I noticed that some correction is needed ... The rubber o-rings I have used from the very beginning of my trials with home made spokes. Here is first result on Bulldog. This was hub made of drilled trough stretched sprue, the spokes from more stretched sprues, the alu foil glued inside o ring to make wheel rim. I am still happy with result but this was a couple of days of trials and a lot of lost efforts... Then "discovered" PE spoke set by Part and it became more easy to do The spokes are the most suitable stuff for PE parts, which in general I am not a true follower of, I am sorry to confess it.... JWM
I assembled engine and added decals. The So-9 are from drawer, "S" comes from Polish CSS-13/Po-2 kit, "9" from SH Vildebeest (twice cut to lower it to size of S) and "o" comes from 88 of Airfix Catalina. But this needs correction of replacement... Upper insignia from ESCI (45 years old, like the Catalina as well) and bottom are from AML G-50. JWM
I have exchanged this b...dy "o" by anoher decal, i could not look on them... I made external transport bags What is left? 1. Mat varnish 2. Windscreens and MG 3. Fuel pipes 4.Exhaust 5. Control cables 6. Some exploitation dirt.. Regards J-W

JWM
After analyzing again photos I came to the conclusion, that larger tailplane in Romeo Ro-1 compared to regular Fokker CV is an urban myth, I am sorry to say. So I will have to rework it... Please have a look at this photo of Ro-1 bis http://www.cmpr.it/MN - Manuale Ro.1 bis -FC/Romeo_Ro1_Bis_1932_Supplemento_MI_-_Ministero_dell'Aeronauti-7.jpg or here on Ro 1 And for example here on CV of Sweden in museum https://previews.agefotostock.com/previewimage/medibaoff/a6181215d55a156ce4a365ffe7b503b1/mev-12023702.webp The cables which drive rudder come out from fuselage right below the bigining of tailplane. The fuselage has the. same construcion, so there is no reason to put it in differet place. It is differently for modified "rounded" fuselage CVE, but this is different story So I am afraid that it will extend the job and may spoil result... JWM
So the consequence of changed concept regarding the size of the tailplane. Ro-1 without tailplane: Comparison of sizes (bare plastic is original LF's tail from CVE taken out of my stash, the creamy white is still enlarged stripped out of Ro-1 Regards J-W
