So I make no apologies for the state of the SU-122 I set out to make it look well worn and battle weary and I think it looks about right. Still a couple of effects to add but I think I'm almost there as far as the weathering goes 🙂. Time to start work on the wheels and tracks and then once they are in place I'll have a better idea about what I need to do to finish this build off. Here's a few pic's of today's progress

So once again I need to let everything dry properly which will give me a chance to tackle the wheels and tracks. Thanks for looking back soon 🙂👍

Thanks Vytautas still a little more work required with a few pigments to add and some graphite but I'm happy with the results so far 🙂👍

I thought that it looked pretty good after the first bout of weathering, but now, you've really nailed it. Superb work Andy.

John.

Thanks John just a little more fettling required and I'll be happy with it 🙂👍

Next the start of the weathering

Hi Andy, Was this a hairspray treatment or all by airbrush? It's such a great finish I'd like to try on my 1/72 SU100.

(If its airbrush I'm stuffed as only work with hairy sticks.......)

Fabulous work btw, hence the ambition to try for myself.

Hi Echen thanks for the comment much appreciated 👍. So this is the product I used on the SU-122

I applied this with a hairy stick and you only need one decent coat as this stuff works really well. Apply it after your primer and then paint your finished colour on top. Cut down an old brush so the bristles are quite firm then dip it in water and dab away gently wherever you want the effect to show but be careful otherwise you'll simply remove all the top surface back to the primer and have to start again. Give it a go mate it's easy to do and you can create as much or as little weathering as you wish 😉 👍

Looks interesting. I'll have a gander and see where I can get some.

G'day

Don't know if anyone will see this, but a question

What did you use for the aerial wire ?

Thanks

Neil

I'm not sure what Andy used but quite a few modellers recommend using guitar string because of its thinness, strength and flexibility. Also Aber models make some if you want.

I tend to use strands from a sweeping brush or broom. They are usually plastic these days so easy to cut and glue, plus if you have a couple around the house they are probably different thicknesses.
