Back in the Saddle
It’s a decent kit and you’re doing it justice! Must do an RFI for my one too...
Lord Riot
A bit of morning work today, and very nice shiny ring! Rear bulkhead for the cockpit in place too. I scratch built the yellow thing and the two levers for the canopy which I’ll display open. I used kitchen foil for the nose ring, smoothed out as much as possible with my thumb, glued around the outer rim then cut to shape with a sharp knife. It isn’t perfect but still better than just paint as there were a couple of scratch marks on the plastic where I’d sanded down the parts that joined the sprue.

Lord Riot
Red Top training rounds finished. The kit doesn’t come with a HUD so I made one from a piece of thin clear plastic. Seat and windscreen added.
Lord Riot
The decals are so old they’re difficult to soak off. I needed to slide them off with a sharp knife as they didn’t float loose.
Lord Riot
Despite being in the grey scheme, this particular airframe had black belly tank stripes instead of white, with just one pair of white stripes on the gunpack.
Lord Riot
Last update before the RFI, most of the stencils are on. I’ll be doing AJ of 5 Sqn ... Anyone have any ideas how I can make the small circle behind the maple leaf? I can’t paint something that perfectly round, and I have no decals that are just a pale disc. Perhaps the end of a round item dipped in paint and dabbed on? Worried it may be too thick and look unrealistic though. The decals don’t have the disc in the background ...
Paulaero
How about spraying the disc using a small plastic stencil such as those in maths sets ??

bar side
Saw your post and had a dig through the decals box. Found these options. Yours if you would like them Either the white disks (need to check the size) or the ones already in the white background
Lord Riot
Tailplanes, refuelling probe and various other extraneous bits added. I made the two spine aerials from a wire. Nose ring added.
RichieW
I'm a bit late to the party but what's not to like. A mighty Lightning built to a high standard. I'll never forget the noise of a lightning in a vertical climb at Duxford years ago. A truly spectacular aircraft!
Lord Riot
The serial numbers in the kit decals looked a bit chunky, so I used separate letters and numbers from an aftermarket white lettering sheet. They don’t look as shiny as in the photo though.
