billn53
Over the past year or so I've been building aircraft of the Wisconsin Air National Guard, in recognition of the state I recently retired in. Wisconsin is known as the "Badger State", hence the moniker "Badger Air Militia" The latest additions to my collection are the F-51D Mustang and F-86A Sabre. Let's start with the Mustang... My Wisconsin ANG F-51 was built using Airfix's excellent 1/72 P-51D kit, plus a few aftermarket details: Next up is the F-86A Sabre, converted from the 1/72 Hobbycraft Sabre 4 kit: Modifications needed for the conversion included: Shortening the fairing around the horizontal stabilizer: Reducing the wing chord: Replacing the canopy windscreen with the earlier, "V-shaped" armored version. I used the windscreen from the Pavla vacuform canopy for this: Scratch-building the "A"'s the speed brake bays: Adding the "A" version wingtip and tail lights: plus a few other things specific to the F-86A .... On to the finished photos! This was actually a triple-build project, the third member being the F-89C Scorpion: I finished the Scorpion first, and it's RFI was posted a few weeks back: With addition of the F-51, F-86, and F-89 my miniature Badger Air Militia has doubled in size: Yet to be added are the aircraft needed to fill the gap between the F-102 Delta Dagger and the F-16 Falcon, namely the Cessna O-2 Skymaster, Cessna A-37 Dragonfly, and Republic A-10 "Warthog". Also in my stash is a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star, which I plan to do in Wisconsin ANG markings. For anyone interested, the WIP for this triple-build can be viewed here: 40

Chrisj2003
Loving this; not just the rare schemes for the older planes, but the precise modelling. Placed next to other planes the Scorpion remains large. Chris

As mean as the Indiana Blacksnakes ⁉️🐍 And a beautiful T33. Thanks for the link. Can't wait 👍 Darn, I thought that was the link to to the NEXT batch! 😬 Never mind..... I'll catch it later Edited March 31, 2021 by rob Lyttle Addition

Here are the best I have for the O-2 and A-37: so, there’s going to be a lot of guesswork on my part, especially for the A-37 Dragonfly.
Cookenbacher
I'm way behind on your WI ANG builds Bill, wonderful work. The black and white pics are so impressive compared to the real things. I've got the decal set for a NM ANG P-51; I hope I can match the ref pic as well as you have!
