alt-92
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hargeisa_War_Memorial I'll refrain from filling in the backstory and leave that to the reader. Be warned, it's not pretty. What I'm planning to do: --------- The kit - Zvezda's rebox of the (underscaled) Dragon MiG-17. It's not much more than a single tree. Won't be using the decals, those will go to the spares box. Instead, I'll have some of the Berna sheet.

alt-92
Splashed about some paint - no real need to go overboard on the pit, as it's not going to be seen under a degraded canopy. Short shot on one of the tailpipe halves added with plasticard, filler next. Happy little accident, Humbrol Thinners stripped not only the Tamiya panel liner but also the acrylic grey. Authentic flaking paint Scrounged up an ICM stand which happens to have a nose-up attitude by default, so fettled a slot in the fuselage.
Col.
While this may be your passport to the Fresco Formation Team but you've certainly picked a unique interpretation of the subject
RidgeRunner
@alt-92 What colour will you be using for the "sand"?
alt-92
Some sandy colour , I suppose The aircraft is faded enough to not have to worry too much, and a dusting of Tamiya Buff XF-57 over the top will certainly blend it all in. 2
alt-92
Right. Lots of cleanup, plastic putty and too regular sinkmarks dealt with.. not all sinkmarks are bad if you want a slightly 'dinged' look, so I left some in. Stance once mounted seems to be quite ok. (yes that's an AModel Wildcatfish and a ZTS/Plastyk D3A Val in the background. Talk about putty and sanding!)

alt-92
Tailfeathers added, and canopy masked ... followed by pre-shading with dark grey and the first thin coat of Tamiya XF-57 Buff I also fixed the nosegear doors to size - the kit being built to be set on it's wheels, there is no attachment point to close the doors. Therefore, a block of styrene bar was cut to shape and stuck in the wheel well itself. The main gear doors are attached with tack in the meantime - the real thing has it's main gear down but not the nose gear

RidgeRunner
Hi @alt-92, Did you have any issue getting the jet pipe installed in the rear fuselage? Thanks Martin

alt-92
Update time! Greens on In the background, my solution to the socket. Evergreen sheet, cut to shapes and sprayed with brickish red (I used RLM26 for this ) and then scored with scraper. Hard part is going to be the vertical bits for each individual brick 😱 Oh, those wheels. Yes. Well.... they're supposed to go in here. Half retracted gear. This is what it looks like.. the sky blue sheets going up to the fuselage probably will end up last.

alt-92
My brilliant idea of using painted post-it notes rapidly fell apart in bright sunlight probably with a dab of PVA it'll stick better. anyways: National markings added, then another dust filter coat of Tamiya Buff X-59 and more scratchwork for the brickwork - once I get writing with the airbrush pat I might add the rest of the slogans. Oh wait. This one. Now where did I leave that PVA?...
