KRK4m
Most sources say that Boulton Paul Overstrands were used in (bombing and gunnery) training capacity as late as 1940. However, I have never come across any photos of camouflaged (TLS over yellow perhaps) Overstrands from the early WW2 (1939-40) period. Can someone shed some light on this? Any help will be appreciated Cheers Michael
Aeronut
During my research into the Hafner Rotachute I came across a report of the development of the rotor system in model form during early 1941. This was attached to the starboard interplane struts of an Overstrand and the accompanying BW photos tend to concentrate on the rotor. However, it is possible to see that the upper surface of the Overstrand's wing were camouflaged. What colour the underside was is harder to figure, if it were a model I'd say it was 'overly weathered'. PM me an e-mail address if you'd like copies. 1
Black Knight
Colours would be Dark Earth & Dark Green over a plain yellow under surface for any involved in training or experimental work.
Patrik
Not my usual subject of interest, nevertheless these I found without too much digging. Left Air-Britain K File, right see the bottom of the page. I believe they may help your research, especially by narrowing the selection of units in concern. KRK4m
Great thanks, Gentlemen. I have never seen these pictures before. I hope one day you will see a 1:72 Overstrand in TLS over yellow 😉 Cheers Michael
JWM
So next to search for - the Overstrand by Contrail.... J-W
Graham Boak
The photo shows it with yellow sides. I believe that the camouflage down the sides is later than the introduction of fin flash and yellow surround to the fuselage roundel, so I have doubts about the profile.
