351, Trumpeter, 1/144

Recommended Posts

Just as a little variety from my recent microscopic projects I went for something completely different ;) Big, simple, no PE and minimal scratch involved, om the other hand a lot of surface to play with painting. For now filling and sanding and filling and sanding.....phase is nearing to the end. Real fun will start soon :D

Gidday Mick, please excuse my ignorance but I have no idea what this is. It can't be a flying thingy, those wings are too small. It definitely looks like it might possibly a submersible craft of some sort, maybe?  Of that perhaps I'm sure of. 🙂 It looks interesting anyway. Regards, Jeff.

It's Chinese sub  called 351, sole example of type 033G1. It was converted from a standard 033G submarine to carry 6 anti-ship missiles. 033G is an improved version of 033, which in turn is Chinese copy of Soviet project 633 called Romeo by NATO forces.

Coning tower done. Lack of PE and the fact that in this scale it looks useless anyway, allowed me to refresh my ability to work with wire. Luckily for me the real thing is even rougher and more banged up ;)

Sorry Beefy, I didn't take photo after each color, but i think it's still quite clear what's done here. There's 5 shades altogether.  Still needs some line treatment before final color. I'll do that while shading the sail and other leftovers.

Cheers Mick are you sure that is not 50 shades of Grey.

I take it from the patternation you do not sweep the air brush but more like a mottle pattern to apply these coats.  :book:

looking great more please when your ready think i could use this method on my new project for the worn aluminium.  :hmmm:

Washed, I still need to make vertical shadows/crumples on the sonar and underwater phone covers, then few days for curing and DESTRUCTION DERBY ;) As it stands I'd call it my version of NAVIGA ;)
