Bob_C
1:48 BAe Hawk T1 Here is my recently completed Airfix Hawk T1 in the colours of No4 Flight Training School RAF Valley from the late 1980’s. The in flight pose was inspired by a photo I came across on the web. The kit, from Airfix, dates back to 2003 and goes together without any issues – quite good in fact. The only modifications being the retracting landing gear, done with a bit of surgery to the undercarriage leg attachments. (I also beheaded the instructor so he is now looking sideways out of the cockpit for a bit more realism !) In hindsight I would extend the legs to give a more ‘weight off wheels’ look. Also the kits outer undercarriage doors are moulded in one piece were in reality one section is attached to the leg and one to the wing (but, hey, it was only a quick project) The colours are Tamiya and Gunze acrylics, with the red being from a spaycan of VW Mars Red. Masking was a bit fiddly and painting with a spray can is, well, tricky. It’s either on or off ! The markings are also not factually correct as XX278 is/was a Red Arrows airframe – but they were the only decals I had! Overall I’m happy with the result and I think it gives a bit of life to the model and a bit of interest to the display shelf. Thanks for looking, Bob 22
