salomon
Looks amazing, I'm not at the engine state by now, I have two choices for the same option like you or buy the entier engine from Metal Detail, my question is that updating set is made for the HB's A-10 and I' don't know if that set can fit to the Academy's new kit.

Thanks! That engine set looks awesome. Yeah, no idea if it would fit the Academy kit, but seems that the engine pods/nacelles on the Academy kit are bigger than the HB. Which is more accurate, I don't know.

Porkbits
1 hour ago, exdraken said: wow, amazing stuff! should I ditch my Italeri Hog ??? I'm reaching the finish line and it's a great kit, with some caveats: 1. BUY AFTERMARKET DECALS. Academy's are the thinnest I've ever encountered and fold/wrinkle by some kind of quantum physics I don't understand. If you do you use them, they need to be wetted for only a few seconds. 2. Instructions are very small print size and are hard to read (esp if you're older). Had to use magnifying app on my iPad to zoom them in many occasions. 3. A couple of the wing walk decals are mislabeled in the instructions. 4. If the shallow depth of the intakes bothers you, get aftermarket replacements. I used the Wolfpack set, which are awesome. 5. Don't follow the assembly order in the instructions. Look ahead and plan a more logical sequence that works for you and your abilities. That is all. 🙂 12

Hope this isn't indicative of rest of build. 😮 To be honest, looking at the terrific detail in this 1/48th kit, I would say some minor fit/short-shot issues are a secondary consideration. Having said that, most Academy kits I've ever bought have featured some of the sharpest, cleanest mouldings I've ever clapped eyes on, so these issues do seem like a step backwards. A case of "You pays ya money and takes ya chances", perhaps? Cheers. Chris.
Tiger331
While I wait patiently to get my hands on one of the specific correction sets for the kit, I remembered that I had a Sierra Hotel set designed for the Revell/Monogram kit which suffers from the same issue. The leading edge rim is smaller although I could always fit it and blend in the gap. Alternatively (and a quick check has confirmed this, I could saw off the rim and mount the tunnel/intake fan from the rear, making sure that it is adjusted to fit against the other engine parts and rear exhaust. The fan and spinner are certainly better than the kit offerings. As others have said, its a pity that this shortcoming spoils an otherwise superb kit. So, if you have the SH set, give it some consideration

Worked on A-10's for 31 years as both a Jet engine troop an a Crew Chief. What would you like to know?
