RNZAF Harvard MkIII, 1/48 Monogram, early 1970's

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

This is the old Monogram kit I have just finished as a RNZAF Harvard MkIII, NZ1065. I have used Colourcoats paints with Ventura decals. This is actually my second attempt as first time around I was really not happy how transparent the white elements of the decals were. This time around I masked and sprayed the national insignias and just used the red portion with the ferns.

I have made a small attempt at re-scribing, with another couple of Harvards on the go I'll be doing a bit more of it. Of interest the cockpit is a dark gull grey which they seem to have been painted with at some point.

Wow, that's beautiful!!  You got the colours perfect too.  Something about that Monogram kit just looks right!

Great job

Anthony

Thanks, it's a mix of International Orange with some Insignia Red.

This is lovely,  I do like the old Monogram  kit with the rivets  too it builds up really nicely,  I did number 76 in the same colours with the red and white chequered cowling using the Ventura decals and itwasavery enjoyable

build.

You have done a cracking job on this and it looks very impressive in this scheme.

The Monogram kits are really nice, though becoming harder to find these days (here in NZ anyway)

Your model is really nice, colours are great too, Well done

We were at Wigram at that time (1972), and remember my Dad mentioning it. As Dad was with

the maintenance section for these (at the time), I probably would have seen NZ1065 at some

point in person

Thanks for sharing your Model with us :D

Since retirement NZ1065 has been a fixture on the NZ airshow circuit, in the same scheme but with the later kiwi roundels. You've done a fantastic job! I was taken aback at first because I've only ever known her with the kiwi.

Superb! Thank you for sharing those photos. The exhaust extension for the smoke generators is massive!

I am still looking for more of these kits as there are other NZ ones I'd like to do but as you say the kit is becoming harder to find. Revell re-released it a few years but even that I haven't seen any for a while.

It would be fantastic if someone made an entirely new T-6 kit that we could make all the Harvard variants from.

Closer View of the smoke Generator on  NZ1099 of the Red Checkers, pretty sure that's the diesel tank

for the smoke in the rear seat area

I'd be happy just to find a 1/72 kit, but they are obviously a hot commodity here in NZed too Should have scored some years ago when they

were more common.

Yes, if some would make a new Kit Series - I'd be a happy camper

If I can get one/some, the first one is a Red Checkers version:thumbsup:

Living at Wigram, I got to see the Red Checkers Practice for up coming shows, it was pretty cool :D

My family (well Dad) did own part of a Harvard years ago......... My Dad brought home a tail wheel off a crashed/SOC

Harvard at Wigram, it became the wheel for our barrow  - quite the novelty it was too  :D

Revell has the recent rebox of the older Heller T-6 floating about, and the Kiwiresin conversion set's vacform canopy fits those.

But yes, could do with a new one.

@85sqn : make sure you save at least one for the upcoming Harvard/Texan GB if you're interested :)

I reckon I'll have to look out for it and go in with my Occidental kit as a MkIIb

Hello 85,

Fantastic build. Not to forget, good photos.

And what is also pleasant to note, this little important trainer brings out lots of other real pictures.

Thanks for sharing,

Regards, Orion.
